View Full Version : Brakes Seizing

Whats up everyone,
So I have recently been having a huge problem where my brake calipers seize up during driving, which you could imagine is a very bad thing. I have Z32 front and rear calipers, with a hydro ebrake plumbed in correctly; no proportioning valve as of yet.
Now, after a bit of driving, the calipers seize up. The only way that I can get the car going would be to pull aside and turn the car off. I would then be able to actually hear the calipers release their death grip.
Any insight on this problem would be a massive help. Cheers!!

You might have to rebuild it. There are some write ups on how to rebuilding it.

Which seized up? All calipers or just one? If its just one, then it probably just needs to get cleaned up or rebuilt.

I had all mine seize up, all 4. Swapped in new BMC, drove it to willow springs, attempted drifting for two days, and drove it home with no more problems.

A similar problem that i had was the rod for the brake booster was adjusted improperly

Im pretty sure that it is all of them. The car comes to a dead spot when they seize up, so it would make sense for it to be all of them. Shit wont budge after they are seized. They only release when I shut off the car.
Imma try changing the booster, hopefully its just that. Its odd because it kinda came outta nowhere. I drove the car home all the way from PA without a problem, but once it was here, all of a sudden it starting acting up.

Did you wind up replacing the brake booster entirely? Or did you just adjust the rod?

Adjust the rod in the booster, behind the master. It's common

R u running a top mount turbo i had a problem with mine heating the booster and turning the vacum to pressure i had to pump the brakes every once in a while to bleed of the pressure back to vacum or pull over unhook the vac line to the booster

Had a similar problem, turned out to be a bad booster. Swapped the booster and everything worked great.
My 240 has 30mm aluminum front and rear calipers with original auto 240 booster and 17/16 BMC. One of the best things I have done to my car.

How would one go about adjusting that? Ive never done it before, and never would have figured that it could be adjusted.

Bottom mount turbo. Although I could try removing the vacuum line if they seize up again. Might be good for narrowing down the problem to either the booster or the BMC.

Thats the brake setup that I am running on the car now actually!!! I really hope that its just the booster. Gonna check it out tomorrow.

Definitely either the booster of the BMC. I insulated the front and rear brakes, thinking that the way that I plumbed the hydro ebrake was the problem. Now only the front brakes seize up since they are the only ones hooked up to the booster and BMC. Gonna be changing both the BMC and booster out soon.
Thanks for all of the help and insight everyone. Cheers!!!
