Did you start at retail? This for the people who don't please don't abuse the service when you go to Best buy or Comp USA. Those people are there to help you not to be treated like shit. Right know I'm working a retail job and it sucks those types of jobs turn you into a more bitter person. Anyway post here about Retail.
im not sure what you mean, i worked at a clothing store and in pawn shops (not retail exactly but the same shit diff pile)

I think he means, when you go into a retail store, and if they come and ask if you need help, don't give'em a smartass remark, because they start to get bitter, and now hate people in general. They are there to help, not to be put down......am I right?
i've worked at Walgreens.... ummmmm yah... and ...... i work at Subway now........ (best subs on earth)

I've worked at Strauss discount auto and I worked in the parts counter and also on the floor making sure everything looked nice and that when people came into the store I had to help them out. that was a fun retail job cause people have taught me a lot. I probably asked them more questions than they asked me:) anyway, retail isnt that bad if u pick the right place to work at. If you hate ur job and customer interaction, then find something else.

i work in Sports Avenue... mainly a hat store, we also have jerseys and tshirts. I never let customers walk on me. when they say something stupid and smart off... i just say "yea ok.." and walk away and continue to walk BET on the overhead televisions
the worst is when people come in and say "do you guys sell hats?" when this big stupid ass grins on their face because there is three walls covered with hats... like ive never heard that before.
the next is when you say "do you need any help" and then they say "nobody can help me" like they are dieing or something
then you have the asses that never say anything to you... they just look at you all crazy and disregard you like you don't matter..
then you have the punks that come in and try to boss you around and cuss at you and say shit like "hurry up" if you are one of those people come in my store... these are the ones i like > like i said i dont let anyone walk over me i dont need my job and dont give a shit about it. i dont let people steal because when i open my shop i dont want people to steal from me... and ive worked 4 years in retail i know all the tricks and every punk that talks crap and smarts off gets kicked out the store and if i want the mall..
yes alot of people do act an ass but if you let them know your not going to take it they wont... you are there to help not to get shit on make sure they know that. "im here to help you.. if your gonna act like that then get the f*ck out..." I started to get to the point where i hate everyone that comes in but not anymore
you have to always smile and make them feel welcome and they will make you feel good to help them.. people love it when you treat them good... and they will treat you good...
lol... sorry i typed all this... but i always school on new employees and my friends about it...
and remember when you walk in a store... your are the 1,000,000,000 person to walk thru that door... the people that work there have heard it all.. if some joke pops in your head to say to the clerk... dont... they heard it before... and prolly for the 1000 time

no theyre not there to help... i should know because i work in retail and we only ask the customers if they want help because we want to try to get commission off them. i dont like doing that but its very competative between me and my co-workers. we like piss them off so much because theyve been asked so many times if they need help. but, thats just the way it is.
I think this will be my time to vent too. I worked at Circuit City for 6 months and now I am going to be working there for the holidays. I really do not mind people that give you a smart ass remark when you ask if they need help because frankly I hate it when people ask me if I need help; if I need it I will ask for it but you guys gotta understand that most stores require you to greet the customer and ask if you can assist them. The one thing that does piss me off though is people that waste my time. I cannot stand people that waste my time, if you come in there to ask questions because you have nothing better to do or bust my balls about how it is cheaper down the road then don't bother, leave the store and go buy it somewhere else. Especially commisioned employess if you do not intend to buy something then do not spend 20 minutes talking to me about it and say you do not want it and leave. That is like taking money out of our pockets when we could be helping someone else. Sorry to bitch so much but retail does make you bitter after a while.

But as a customer I want to ask all the question I have about a product I am going to buy, and If I don't buy you Fockers get mad...hahaha, thats funny.
I don't get mad at someone that asks questions and decides that the product isn't what they need; I get pissed at the people that ask you a shitload of questions and then go somewhere else and buy it. That is weak. You should try working retail and see how funny you think it is...

Well, if you find a better deal somwhere else, where you going??? HUH!??
I just find that so stupid........ how is it weak?
Am I weak?
Nevermind dude, work retial for a while and you will understand.

When I was in HS I did work retail for an ROP class to get extra units, I worked at a Video game store, its was ok, people would ask me questions and I would answer, thats all there is to it.....I don't care if they buy or not, as long as I get paid for the time I worked.........also, half the time I was in another "world" hehehe
Oh #### yeah I hear u on that. I wouldn't give two shits if it were an hourly job, ####, I would avoid customers but at Circuit City you have to sell things to make money (comission). If you don't sell anything then you are sitting around for $5.15 an hour. That is what I was talking about. When someone wastes your time and does not buy from you when you are on comission you lose some loot.
Kid Zelda
12-09-2001, 10:47 PM
Circuit City is not hourly......thats sucks.
Well, I can understand why you get mad, but its their monies, so I can do what I want, buy from you or somewhere else, whatever best, thats why u got to go out of your way to make the deal, maybe you just can't close a deal (no pun)
Dude I would give shit away for free if I could. You can't make "deals." Electronics are not cars and besides it isn't like it happens all the time, just enough to piss you off. That is one reason why I only work there for Christmas, make a lot of money really quick and then get the #### out in january when all the returns come back and all that bullshit.
Kid Zelda
12-09-2001, 10:57 PM
Well, I guess if your only working for X-mas season........you shouldn't care...right, cuz there is always a new one walking in the front door with there Wife beater shirt on waiting to buy a new Big Screen to watch porn BIG-RRR. (no pun)

I have two and a half years at CompUSA in accessories and hardware sales (just moved into the tech shop), and though I was never on commission I recieve much recognition for customer service for one simple reason: I ask if people need help, and if I don't have the answer, I make sure to get it for them. Somebody getting pissy 'cause you've asked them if they need help is nothing compared to somebody that had to wait or track down somebody to help them. I've got no problem with a customer that says "no thanks" or "I just want to be left alone," 'cause 50% of the time they track me down later to ask a question.
The thing with retail is to stay in a good mood and not let people bother you. Holidays are an absolute pain in the ass, but during the rest of the year, if you're bothered often you're probably in the wrong business.

Let me clear you guys on what I meant. I meant to say is have you worked retail? (I kinda had a feeling that allot of people here have before ) For the people who don't; Don't give us a hard time because you're spending $5.00 and you want to be taken care off.
misnomer: What's up bother I work at Comp Usa Braintree MA 3rd best store in the rigion. With some of the best sales people too. No, I'm a merchandiser but I like to wonder into the hardware section a couple of times.
I worked out a couple of tricks that makes sure I cut down on the number of people bothering me. I'm hourly so I don't give a ####. Don't make eye contact, send them to some else (pretended you're an idiot). Stay in section that doesn't have allot of customers. Walk around sections with out a lot of customers. Since I'm merch I always got something to do. Let people come to you (don't bring attention to you're self). When all else fails help the person because with out them you don't have a job.
Kid Zelda: what do you do? If nothing, work at retail see who much fun you have when a customer stokes you for info and doesn't sallow at the end. I don't want to sound like a dick but if you're asking me question that means you want to buy. If not there is a little thing called researched. Believe it or not I see that in this board sometimes. But were not sales people here so it's cool. Just make to tell the other person you're just carious.
Yes, I hate retail! I worked off and on for about 4 long years . I started working in Star Market at 14 worked there or about 2 1/2 years. I worked at foot locker and now I work at Comp for about a year. I'm going to start looking for another job soon. I'm looking into data entry or anything else that will pay me 10 bucks an hour. I need to know Access and word like the back of my hand. In MA people get paid but this is TAXAchusetts. I don't really like customer interaction too much. So I want a nice lonely job. *Thinks about when that will happen*

I'm sorry you all have to go through that, and I know exactly what you mean.
I dont' work retail, I work as a receptionist/cashier at a Nissan/Subaru/Isuzu dealership. Sometimes I have to deal with people who disagree with paying an x amount of dollars for a certain repair, and if there is no one there from service, I really can't fix their price and refuse to explain their repairs to them (since I'm just a receptionist, and if I say something wrong, I get busted!). I have figured out one thing: pretending that I don't care aggravates them in turn. I just half-smile and try and be courteous to the customers and apologize and say there is nothing I can do and to call in the morning and speak with a service manager, and they apologize all the time . I mean... I feel bad that they're not happy, but... there is only so much I can do.

I've worked at Circit City for Four years and I hate the hours around holidays, But I not bitter I like working with people even if they are rude. It gives me a challenge. Plus I get alone with all the people I work with, we have a #### of a time, of course I work in car audio, so how can't you have fun. I'll admit there have been moments but every job is like that. I like working there, I just hate the hours.

ok... lemme tell ya a lil somthin about dealing with the public... i used to work at a little flower shop. bullshit job. all you gotta do to keep youre sanity, is smile. you ont even have to act like you car, but if your a smartass with a smile on your face, people will think you care. they will also think you know what the #### youre talking about. thats my secret anyway...

Your absolutly right, even when a customer is being a dick, if you smile and act nice. It just pisses them off even more while your not doing anything wrong. There just mad because there pissed and want you to be, but if you show them that they aren't bothing you. That will just piss them off even more. Victory for you. Thats what I've done for four years and I never have a bad day because of a customer. The key is not to let them get to you.

Yeah dude, I sympathize. I've worked in a bit of retail. Actually, worked in Autozone for my most recent annoying experience. I was only there for 6 months or so.
Customers would come in and ask for a fan belt.
"What kind of car is it?"
-Taurus.
"What year?"
-I don't know.
"Do you know what engine it has?"
-Yeah, it's a 6 cylinder.
"Is it an SHO?"
-Uhhhhh.
"K, probably not. Does it have air conditioning?"
-I don't know.
"You drive this vehicle and you don't know what year it is and if it has air conditioning? How about this, does it get really cold in summer when you turn on the vents?"
-I don't know.
"Boss, I gotta go look at a car to get some info. Be right back."
And the best is, "Sorry, we're out of stock right now."
-WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE OUT OF STOCK! I DROVE ALL THE WAY FROM KAYENTA TO GET THAT PART!
(Did you think to call and ask if we had it?) Fucking retards.
