(i did some research on here and google. and can't seem to find the answer)

I have a '91 240sx Hatchback
I've always had a problem with my headlights (pop-ups) since i bought the car. at first the lights would not flip down. I would manually turn the motors and flip the lights down. if i pressed the switch they would flip up fine but wouldnt go down, if i wanted them down i would have to manually do it.. also they would never flip up when i would turn the lights on, only if i pressed the switch they would.

I replaced the motors, switch, Headlight Timer Assembly, and relays

Now, when i press the h/l light switch, they go up and come back halfway down to the "sleepy eye" position and stay that way. if i turn the headlights on they dont move. before replacing motors they would only go up, after replacing motors, they flip up and then back down and stay half way.

my point is, they stay at the "sleepy eye" position. which i really dont want that because my housing assembly isnt adjusted for that nor do i want to have them that way.

anyone have an idea whats going on there? thanks in advance for the help

mine used to go up, but not down just like you said yours used to do. I replaced the headlight stalk on the steering column (the switch you twist to turn them on and off) and they work perfectly now. if you have the old motors, i would put them back on and see if that makes them work properly. if the headlights go halfway back down, that sounds like a problem with the motors.

it could probably be the headlight switch the one were u turn signals, or the connector that goes in the motor is bad all the way to the end of the line hope this helps with your trouble shooting

Check the stalk switch like stated above, if you can get your hands on another one or even better borrow one to test. Some of the Hardbody trucks switches will work as well.

i checked everything that was mentioned. and put another set of motors on. now the lights go all the way down. but when i turn on the lights the drivers side light goes up then comes back halfway down. passenger goes up and down fine. i havent changed the turnsignal/light switch yet. ill give that a try. but it seems like im getting closer to the solution. anyone know if maybe the bracket that goes from motors to the housing can be set wrong? kinda like timing or something

Check wires from switch, I think brown cable is for get down headlinghts. It could be related with your issue.
Look for wiring cut, unproper plugin or false contact.

Hope it help you. Regards.
