ok so my car hasn't started for about 3 months now I've tried everything.. well after buying a New ignitor I wanted to check for spark so I pulled plugs and grounded to valve cover cranked car got no spark. Then I figured ide check fuses again well I wasn't getting power to eng cont fuse. The fuse wasnt blown I tested with fuse out and nothing now to my understanding this fuse is what controls my ecu wich in turn controls spark Any ideas on why there isn't any power? all help is needed thanks! O and its a s13 red top Sr I swapped out ecu already.

well, trace where that fuse is supposed to get power from.
normally its either from the ign switch, or from a relay.

could it be my ecu? I searched what the fuse was for and it sais the ecu but I have already changed ecu so I don't get it.

The fuse provides power TO the ecu. Not the other way round.
Like I said, find where that fuse gets its power FROM. Most likely a relay like the egi or ECCS relay.

ok gotcha. I'm gonna check the wires going to the fuse and relays even though I changed the relays but its worth a shot I guess

which engine control fuse? The square one in the bay or the one in the fuse panel in the car. There are two.
Also did you check with the ignition on? Because the one in the bay only gets power with the ignition on. The one in the car should be hot at all times if im not mistaken. Either way check with the ignition on on both.

Look in the FSM for the wiring diagram and with a digital multimeter, goto work. It can be frustrating searching for the cause but it's just something you have to do.

Someone wired a switch to mine. I removed the wires for the switch so im not to excited to find out what I need to do to fix their bandaid.

its the fuse not the relay and yes the key was turned on... the car was running great before this

If your not getting any power to the fuse, then more than likely your ignition switch is either bad or if your still using the factory fusible links on your main connections to the battery. You have the large gauge wire to the starter and then two smaller but still large wires. The factory wiring uses two fusible links that connect between the harness and then the red box terminal connection on the battery. You quite possibly blew that connection. Check that first and if all is good then yeah your ignition switch is probably toast.

Spark and fuel injector pulse are triggered by the ecu.
Go on google and get an ecu pinout for your specific car, then with the key in the "on" position, make sure you have all the correct powers and grounds.
Kinda off topic, but I've seen multiple #62 ecus for red top sr20 that "get fried" and will no longer trigger the ground for the egi/ECCS relay. If you add a manual ground switch for that ecu it will work fine.

ok thanks I googled the pinout so ill check it tinight... also what exactly do u mean by manual ground? run my own? do I need to use a multimeter or can I use a test light?

what i mean is, when you turn the ign key on, the ecu provides the ground for the relay. i've seen #62 ecus "go bad" and they will no longer provide the correct ground. therefore, the relay will not power up the things it is supposed to.
so, if you take the ground from that relay, and wire it up to a switch
(any two-way toggle switch, you can get from autozone, pep-boys, etc)

so that now YOU turn the ground on and off, and therefore turn the relay on and off, instead of the ecu doing it. this also works as a good "kill-switch" or hidden theft deterrent.
you don't want to hardwire the relay directly to ground, because then it would stay energized at all times, even with the car off and the key out.
i'm not saying that this is for sure the solution to your problem, just suggesting another thing to check, based on my own personal experience.

well I have the pinout for the ecu but I'm not really sure what I should be looking for I'm new to the multimeter so I'm stuck.. do I just touch a ground with the black then the wires with the red?

yeah thats basically it, but you really need to spend some time reading the manual for your multimeter. normally people only use them for 1/10th of what it is capable of.
this is the tool i recommend to every single person i've ever met who is interested in working on their own car. its like a multimeter, but 100x easier/simpler to use, and less bulky too.
imo its worth 2x the price

Open your ecu, most likely a burnt trace.
