JGY charges 1100 for install.... i wouldnt buy the clip because if you're gonna get a shop to do it then why would you get the clip? just get the motorset with everything, because if they are an experienced shop then they shouldnt have a reason to need the clip?

err? no! buy a clip and don't try to save $$$ by getting a motorset. even if you're doing it at a shop they will work better and faster with parts on hand and an easy reference.
a 5k swap sounds pretty pricy btw, esp if its using the stock sr components only. typically people take advantage of this time to put in new clutch/flywheel/to, fmic, etc etc. iirc from what i read a good swap with extras runs 5-6k.

just go with the engine and if your missing parts try ebay or www.srswap.com, also try searching for Nippon Motors, i believe they had sr20 redtops complete with tranny for 1500. Our shop here gets engine and puts it in for a total of 2500.

it's insane to spend 6k on a motorswap thats going to get you < 250 hp at the wheels. insanity i tell you.
my car cost less than that. (S14 SE)

um, cost of car doesn't mean anything. if you want a sr powered 240 cheap, buy a s13 shell for 400 bucks or so, buy a clip, and do it yourself. buying a clip has several advantages over motorset. a proper full clip should have the necessary basic parts. there's also considerably better chance of getting a good motor, and its a good reference for the swap. i've only been on zilvia for a year and i've read (here and on other forums) about plenty of people who got fukked over buying a motorset.
seriously, get a clip and do all the work on the engine while it isnt in the car yet; ESPECIALLY if you don't have the logistics/time/skill/whatever to work on the car yourself. if you want to save money, do it yourself instead of hiring a shop to do it for you. the core of motorsports is driving skill and mechanical knowledge/tuning having a shop install crap for you doesn't give you either. granted, i know some people just don't have the logistics to do it themselves (a garage, time, spare car...etc).
take it how you will; this is all just my silly opinion, and i'm just a random guy on an internet forum. if you really trust your shop, go with what they tell you.

No one said anything about the cost of a car. But I will now. Its simply not a good economic decision to spend more money on wheels or an engine than the car cost (unless its a track only car being raced regularly). Sure you can have a built SR and all the latest JDM trend items, but if your car is 14 years old, ripped up interior, dented quarter panels, "reconstructed" title, stock suspension, just like some people in this community... i dont see the point.
The cost of an engine should be directly proportional to its power output (or else why would anyone buy one? besides trendy people who get things to feel cool or part of a scene?) 6k for 220 horsepower is not worth it. It's people that have money to burn and throw down whatever suppliers ask that are driving engine prices up well beyond what they are worth. I'll bet the average japanese tuner would fall over laughing if they knew how much people were paying for SR's here in the states.
Me... top price i would pay for s14 SR would be 3-3.5k for an immaculate specimen, and I would install it myself.

you did mention it.

anyway car modding never makes good financial sense. i don't understand what you're talking about? racers build up junky cars all the time for track racing. 240s, miata, rx7 FCs over at rx7club; hell ae86, datsun510... plenty of people build up shells of junked or nearly junked vehicles. why isn't this worth it? it makes much more sense then using newer cars... practically everything on the car is getting swapped off anyway. otherwise this hobby would be beyond the financial means of most of the people here. throw on junkyard q45/z32 brakes. suspension and chassis stiffening would probably be set b4 the motorswap. interior condition doesn't matter... it would be ripped out of the car first thing; aftermarket seats, wheel, roll cage, harness set in. dented panels doesn't matter nearly as much as a straight frame and no rust.
as for sr-swap the costs i associated with it are not for 'building up' the engine. i'm talking basics like cat-back exhaust 4 turbo (~300), new aftermarket clutch (250), new flywheel ($$$), hoses($$$), pipes ($$$), basic maintenance (this is a used, junked engine after all ($$$), etc... that can easily add up to 1k pretty quickly. people buy it not just for the hp#... they buy it b/c now they have a lower mileage, higher revving, factory turboed engine. the only other 'real' option for more hp; ka-t has its own seperate problems and is also not cheap for substantial # gains.
IMO those s13 junkers with full suspension work and sr's are the *least* likely to be jdm-wannabes.
Alryte i decided to get a few mods in the process.....Which downpipe woud you guys recomand...HKS or Greddy...? Same w/ the bov....HKS or Greddy?...what kind of Clutch?
cuz im Basicly gona get these mods for the same price...i was just wonderin which brands are better....anyways here is the pck im gettin also.

Thats a lot of money, but if you cant do things yourself, go ahead and do it. Better to pay a shop more that knows how to do it, than save a little and have a shop use your car as a learning experience.
If you want to save money, learn to do things yourself. And no, a clip isnt neccessarily always the best way to go. You just have to know what you're getting and how much its worth with a motorset.
