Here it goes, I have been talking to a wheel company about making new wheels that are more directed to the 240sx. They are interested but I need your input on what sizes, wheel offsets, and styles.
I have convinced them that they need to get more consumer input on their wheel selections and offsets. Currectly no one is really targets the FR guys but the Japanesse wheels, which are way to exspensive.
I have got with them on some ideas and they want me to get more consumer input. I think if we can show them that the 240sx guys are interested in getting better offsets and wheel selection we can keep them interested in getting the consumer inputs and make a better/ inexspensive wheel.
So lets hear it.............................

I have talked to them about doing 4 lug and 5 lugs. They are willing to make all the wheels in both patterns as long as I can show them people are interested in both patterns in the offsets and sizes we go with. This is why I need all of your inputs. More people the better.
BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More sizes the better. This is for you guys!!!!!!
Any other ideas let me know.

whew. i'm glad; i thought i was the only one. it seems +10 - +20 is a good size though. iirc + moves the mount towards the outside of the wheel (so more + offset would sink in the wheel more) and - does the oppositte. i think thats why people say +30 on these sizes is a 'weak' offset... u'll end up with sunken wheels. i think.
but yeah id be interested in these wheels too; so if they get made you have another potential customer. :D

werd...I don't mind rolling fenders and little negative camber doesn't bother me but +10 on 8" wide seems like that would be a hard fit.
BTW, grumpy, got any idea what these things are gonna look like or wieght? having a wheel that fits and is the size you want is only half the battle....

Would you be willing to tell us who may make these wheels? Also, they would need to be light. Do you know how much the wheels are going to cost.

if the rims have both 4 and 5 lug pattern at the same time, that would be awesome.
my friend has some bridgestone rims that came with both 4 and 5 lug pattern, which makes things a hell of a lot easier (and cheaper) when and if he goes 5 lug.
that would make them appealing to me, if anything.

Im with him....17x8/9s 18x8/9s with +20 to +10mm offset *im leaning more on +15 since ive seen how they look first hand*
4/5 lug interchangeable would be a good thing and the biggest thing is clear Z brakes *or bigger* and coilovers.
Personal note...im a big fan of MESH Styles. Im thinking Volk GT-Us. :boink:

17x8 +25, 17x9 +25, 5x114.3 MESH or BBS style snowflakes w/ lip, preferably 3 PIECE so we can remove the centers and have them powder coated.
Seriously....5 lug mesh, especially 17 inch+ are IMPOSSIBLE to find cheap/secondhand.

I really don't want to let out the name of the company yet. I want to make sure they are going to go through with this. I am looking into the weight issue and not too sure of styles yet. But for one thing I am working out with them, is that the consumer has more input on what is made and sold.
Foe the price??? Not sure yet. Trying to keep it as low as possible. I have a meeting with them this week Once I get more info I'll let you know.
Once we know for sure if they are going to go aheard and work on making more 240sx fitting wheels I'll let you guys know.
I am also working with them on different packages. One thing I was thinking was, You would get like a "Drift" package. This means you would get 2 fronts and 4 rears in a package. Also a discount on the wheel if you damaged a wheel and you only need one. So that you are not paying full price for only one wheel.
But I need all of your help to make this work. Remember, these guys look at numbers. SO I need to show them that there is a market for wheels marketed towards the FR (240sx) guys.
So keep the info coming and make sure EVERYONE writes something down. More people the better chance we have at getting more FR friendly wheels.

Good luck with the meeting. I hope this goes through so those of us with 4 lug will have some proper offset wheels.

16x9 +15ish
both able to clear z brakes and being deciently light.

what about the style of wheel. personally i would love to see some more affordable volk lookalike wheels. i get cost plus ten on wheels and volks are still damn spendy. i would go with a 17x8.5 multispoke with a fat lip that you could lay a dollar bill in!!!!!! as for offset probably 25to 30 milli

and it doesnt matter what sizes if they arent affordable, meaning that <$1000 for a full set, or at least close, its easy to find wheels that are 1500-2000 for our cars
also some designs to keep in mind, the DT-05R wheels from togue factory are badass, as well as the hyperblack they come in, very rare and nice color!!
some TE37 styles also (thick spokes)

could you keep me informed on approximate date if they are produced b/c im into the market for wheels now and if you say they will produce some then i may wait, otherwise i will get some soon
thanks!!!!!!!

for under 250 per rim. these are the sizes that come on Mustang Cobra's(not offsets though)..i'd have to go 5-lug to run Cobra wheels but they are like 150 bucks a piece for 9 inch and 10.5 inch wide wheels which makes it well worth it for 5-lug.

I just got off the phone with them and I have to turn in the info tomorrow morning. So I will be pulling all of this data in a few hours. SO last chace to get your say in.
Also, we are talking about TRYING to keep the wheels (Noticed I said WHEELS, YES more then one design) around $$150 to $200 a wheel. How does that sound to everyone.
And yes, we are talking about keeping the wheels as light a possible......
Anything else I need to pass on to them..........????

Price sounds good very good.
Sizes have probably been mentioned but here are some more.

That 4 lug + 5 lug pattern sounds kinda cool. I got 5 lug rears and 4 lug fronts. That'd be sweet to buy a package and not 2 pairs of diff rims. :coold:

this is what i have so far grumpy-
from frisco/ az240sx.org:
16x8 +25 / 16x9 +35
16x8.5 +27 / 16x9.5 +40
17x8 +25 / 17x9 +35
17x8.5 +20 / 17x9.5 +30
17x9 +15 / 17x10 +15, +22, +38
18x8 +25 / 18x9 +35
18x8.5 +20 / 18x9.5 +30
18x9 +15 / 18x10 +15, +22, +38
18x9.5 +22 / 18x10.5 +22
That should take care of s13, s14, z32, z33, G35 fitment. Make everything in 5x114.3 so they cover the broad market. Maybe a few sizes in 4x114.3 as well.
Also, with the "drift market" there are several very important factors to consider.
1. If they want to go all out - offer front wheels in high disk and rear wheels in low disk. Fronts obviously for brake clearance, rear wheels for angled in spokes, DISH, and rwd lip that the fwd losers can only dream about. Do not just have them add backspacing to the rim to change the offsets, be sure they angle the spokes if the design permits, or add lip and set the overall disk more inward. This is going to increase the design costs, as they will have to make different castings and ensure each has the same structural integrity.
2. Also - colors - gunmetal, polished, bronze, black, white, chrome, and gold.
3. Weight - weight is a huge issue, obviously, although most people also overlook the weight of the tires, as this DOES vary between manufacturers. Forged wheels are too expensive and they will not sell them at a price that very many people can pay, but consider making a few sizes in forged as well. Lightweight and STRONG cast wheels should be fine.
4. Offer some unique designs and some timeless design. A LOT of wheel companies that are even respected in some circles (like ADR for example) makes nothing but knockoffs. The designs MUST be original, even if they take styling cues from Volk, which everybody does but nobody admits to.
5. Tuner style rims with fake rivits and trash like that are not permitted, Tenzo, Konig, etc are total shit and people know this.

just talk to work or volk both companies are willing to make custom bolt patterns for most of there wheels, and work says mostly all of there wheels..
they have lots of blank non drilled wheels and will drill them in 4 x 114.3... i know lots of you are lazy, but you guys want wheels with that nice size and offset so bad... you can get any size you want.
my buddy got Vs-xx works drilled for his prelude 4x114.3. (he got to pick what size offset).
