I am about to swap in a fresh ka24de engine into my 96 se, It is out of a 92 coupe. I know that I need to use my 96 intake manifold and all the sensors. What I dont know is if it is possible to unbolt the intake manifold from my 96 block and just pull the block out instead of having to pull off all the sensors and wires? also can I swap oilpans seeing as how my 96 oil pan is already tapped. Thanks.

Umm...I dont know bout the whole using the 96 sensors on a 92 thing. OBDII car with a OBDI engine, that could get ugly.

I swapped a 96 ka into my 92 and everything was ok. I just swapped intake manifolds like mentiond. Connectors really didnt have a prob with considering just using your stock 96 connectors.

Did you take the manifold off before you took the engine out of the car or did you take it off once it was out.

i took it off once it was out and then connected it to the motor on the garage floor. Much easier.....just make sure u label connector prior to removing totally.

Swapping a newer engine in a older car is fine, but isn't it illegal to swap a older engine into a newer car? I'm sure it is in cali, everythings illegal in cali.

hell I think every connector is different so you cant really mess the connections up. its very easy to do the swap, the engines are the same and with the exception of the intake manifold there really arent tons of lines and sensors to worry about, quite somple.

I swapped mine with MJJStang in about 8 hours total just the swap. Of course we ran it to some problems along the way.

well seing that Before I touched it, I had pretty much changed oil and air filter in my mustang and thats it, we ran in to little bs, like forgetting a few connectors taht had to come off, but once we started raising the engine, just look around the whole thing and you should see if you missed any, also like was said, things had to be swapped, like ac bracket and stuff. make sure you get a good can of your favorite bolt loosener, seeing you are in mighigan like we are. and im sure you may have some rust. mostly for the underbody bolts and such. like crossmembers. we had a little bit of a problem with that dam exhaust tube that goes to the emissions bullshit. it was a clearance issue. also when we went to put the engine in. you have to finesse SP? the mounts onto the bolt. there was a little trouble there. its been a while so im sure im missing something, but where are you in MI.

Thats about what I figured, probably when I start to lift it I will start to see what needs to be removed that was forgoten. I am going to get it over to my Dads garage this weekend and start pulling the little stuff off, like the crossmember, turbo, tranny. Then maybe get started on the little stuff. hopefully I can work this swap down to as little time as possible. By the way I live right out side of Ann Arbor. Where do you guys live at?

it's best to lift out the whole thing, then swap manifolds/transmission/oil pan out of the car.

I will probably go with lifting everything out. Mjjstang, You guys are not that far away. I will keep this in mind and may get ahold of you if I have any issues. If you can think of anything else I should keep an eye out for I would apreciate it.
