Hey fellow Zilvians on the other coast. Some friends and I are making our way to LA on April 12th weekend, and catching Formula D on Long beach will be one of our to do things.
Not having ever been to LA, I come to my Zilvia family to see if there are any locals willing to help out some East coasters in finding must go to places to check out, dine, and party at in LA.
-In terms of partying, preferably places/areas that are dance and house music friendly
-Food wise, anything that isn't burgers, hot dogs, and pizza!
-nice spots on the beach (Long , Huntington, and Newport Beach)
-Whatever else you can recommend. We have no idea what we're looking for, tell us what a bunch of 240/car guys from the east coast would like, LA!
I understand Coachella, as well as NPPL Huntington Beach Open (paintball) take place during this weekend as well and may very well be destination options for the weekend.
Throw out any ideas, you have no idea how idea how much this would help us not going into a city blind. I'm very much obliged for making new friends and buying drinks!

long beach downtown and the pike is a cool local spot for visitors. Mai Tai and Kavikas are cool hangout bars/club spot.. Pine St. in LB has many bars and clubs to hop around. all that is within a mile of where formula D is at. i've had many friends visit from other states and they love it there. most locals don't because to us its like a high school reunion and you see the same faces, so it gets old. Down Town Fullerton is also a cool spot for bar hoping and clubs.

If you guys are interested in Coachella, I received an email yesterday that the first weekend is already sold out(in 15 minutes after going on sale). I wouldn't be surprised if the second weekend is already sold out too.

That week's Coachella IS sold out, but I've been to enough electronic music festivals to know that there are always ppl selling tickets for half the cost due to X reasons.
I don't think we'll end up going to Coachella. It was more of something to fall back on if we couldn't find anything else. We're more interested in exploring and seeing LA, and experiencing the night life.
I understand there are Formula D pre and after parties, and that Ryan Sage is a DJ. Any opinion on those- Sausage fest of drift fans?

Nokia center always has something going on. i.e comedy, rap, rock, blues! Its downtown across of the Staple Center, and there are some great bars in the area. Get a DD because taxi prices are crazy in Cali, compared to the east coast. I use tolive in Bad News VA!

Downtown Fullerton is cool for going out and drinking. Main Street in hunnington is cool to go too also. For food I'd say get some roscoes chicken and waffles. I drive 60 miles for that place

Thats great recommendations guys.. exactly the type of stuff I'm looking for to start looking at.
Any club recommendations that do EDM, specifically house, trance and maybe even techno?

yeah, renting a car is a def.
I work at the shipyard in Newport News. Hampton Roads is killing me slowly every day on the inside.

Yeah I'm sure. NPPL is a dying league, espeically this year were PSP scheduled an event on the same day NPPL has an event on to put a big hit on them, but it'll still be cool to experiece an event on the beach front.

If you can make it out to Cars and coffee every Saturday morning in Irvine they have a huge variety of cars from classics to imports to modern supercars. Its a great way to start a Saturday morning in Socal.

good stuff guys!
we're in the process of reshuffling our lodging for the weekend. Would you guys say Huntington Beach or Long Beach is the better party beach and over all beach exp?

the actual 'beach' in LB isnt a party beach, people mainly use it for running, or bike rides, excersise etc. its not a good beach to get in the water either. HB is ok on the water side , they are pretty strict with partying on the 'actual beach'.. However, both cities have many great/fun bars right off the beach, withing a couple block radius. They are both fun, it mainly depends who you go with and who you meet. HB are right across the st from the beach, whereas LB you gotta walk a bit from the beach. They are both fun though. so i would say you should try them both. have fun

I am SORRY but you HAVE to try IN N OUT. It's a hamburger but this will rock your socks.
1. Go to In N Out
2. Order some Double Double
3. Order some fries in Animal Styles
4. Get some shakes with that.
5. Mouth load of goodiess.
There is Cars & Coffee meet EVERY SATURDAY MORNING @ Irvine.
Also +1 for Huntington Beach pier during the sundown. It looks great and full of restaurants and bars on the main street.

If you're going to visit the Beverly Hills area, definitely check out Andre's. It's an Italian restaurant. Then check out The Grove which is across the street but make sure to take your car. They WILL tow your car if you park at Andre's and leave to the Grove.
If you're in the mood to cruise, you HAVE to check out the PV hills. LOTS of curves with the ocean/golf courses next to it. Not to sound homo, but it's beautiful.

pumped up for LA!
Is Saturday all tandem battles? Schedule shows event starts at 10am (im assuming top 32). Any idea when Top 16, and great 8 starts and time in between?

Roughly around 12:30PM is top 32, then around 3PM is top 16 and finally around 5PM is top 8? This is just coming from my best memory of my last 4 visits to Formula Drift - Long Beach
Where are all you East Coasters going to meet up at FD - Long Beach? Are we going to designate a meet up location / time?
You guys should all try to meet up with us in Orange County (Fullerton, CA) so we can all caravan down to Long Beach together. Who's coming from the East Coast?

We're staying right around Hollywood and Vine earlier in the week, however we may relocate to Palos Verdes/Rolling Hills Estates come Saturday-Sun
Are there parties after FD event near the convention center?
Any idea if there are usually a bunch of scalpers outside the venue? Tickets appear to have just sold out. I just need one more, if anyone knows anyone selling one, plz txt 57I 278 3886

I forgot to thank the SoCal Zilvia community for your contributions. We had a blast in the LA area and will be back...
After that trip, i think I am going to take the plunge and quit my job early 2014 and move- possibly to the LA area. I have South Long Beach, Santa Monica, Bevery Hills, Hollywood, or Malibu in my sights.
SoCal has everything I like. Its hard to describe but the atmosphere and attitute of the cultures there are so much different than the east coast.
