With a custom FMIC, you can keep reinforcement. If you use JDM FMIC (Greddy, Blitz, HKS) I believe you'll have to remove it.

Hmmm, I know it sounds pathetic but this is the first time I've heard this. Wouldn't that make the car really unsafe in the case of a front end collision? That would suck to spend all this money only to have it destroyed because of an $800 fmic :ugh:

Well... Jap reinforcement is really not the same as USDM (Canadian) reinforcement... I'm not 100% sure about it... Maybe some kits don't need to take the reinforcement out, but after seeing what Japs consider reinforcement, I wouldn't feel safe in a true 180sx.

You can keep it with the greddy and other kits but you have to modify it. Plasma cutter would be the best option but I realize those aren't easily obtainable for eveyone. I went to harbor freight and got a 4 1/2" angle grinder and a box full of discs and some saftey goggles and went to town. Believe me, some re-enforcement is better then none. On my old sil-eighty, I didnt have the support in there and some a$$hole backed into my front bumber in a parking lot and drove off, at first it didnt look like any damage occured to my car at all, I was pretty relieved until, I looked down and saw that my $800 IC was bent to hell. Hence putting the support in on my current car.

Thanks for the precision PSI240SX... I knew at least some modding needed to be done.

I personnally have a custom FMIC and no need to mod the current reinforcement.

Heres what you can do...ur gonna have to cut the bottom inside of the bumper if you wanna keep it to fit an FMIC. Go to a welding shop and have em beef up what evers left of the bumper rebars. Thats what my boy ended up doing. Hopefully the welded rebars will streghten back whatever is left of the bumper

halo> but after seeing what Japs consider reinforcement

shuttup halo, thats not a nice word.

besides, depending on the FMIC you can cut your front bumper support in certain areas to make it fit.

Have you considered a V-Mount setup? Mounting your IC horizontally and the radiator at an angle? Mayb it'll make reinforcement impossible, but i thought it was cool. Really functional too.

omg
i cant believe you said that
hahaha
so stupid
not good for a street setup too

this because its popular in japan doesnt mean its suitable out here for everyone
its betterfor a track car the na daily driver
also if you roll over something, good bye radiator
you'l have LOTS of fab work. if you cant fab a front bumper support you have no chance in hell on a v-setup

anyways....

I have seen them swiss cheesed with holes, thinned out, removed entirely... etc.
I'm just gonna trim mine as needed to clear the IC, mine is not that tall top to bottom so it should fit in below it.

what reinforcment, my blitz LM kit for s14 (in a zenki s14) bars the use of most of the reinforcement all you can keep is basically the outer area what holds the signal lens and maybe a 2-3mm thick strip (the front layer of your reinforcement)
