So I've been looking for a 1996 240sx for a while and I finally found one but he's selling it for $5,500 FIRM! What I've been looking for is a complete stock 240 that is well maintained so that I can use it as my DD.
'It has a new paint job(color red), Rebuilt stock DOHC engine less than 300 miles on it, New interior(Leather seats, new dash), NEVER DRIFTED OR RACED with it.'
I can't think of anything else that the car has but if I do I'll post them up.
....
So once again my question is, Would you pay that much for the car?:wan:
Eh i would say thats overpriced IMO. unless its like super clean or something, pics would help

Just keep searching. That's a high price; there's some clean ones out there. Don't get inpatient and settle for the first one you find.

There is a whole thread for "small questions" such as this.

Since I need one for school I was thinking of just going for this one. It's the only clean one that I have found on this site and on craigslist. AND that is close to me!

Go look at it and drive it and go through it with a fine tooth comb, if it's really sweet put 4000 on the hood and see if he grabs it. I wouldn't go more than that for the freshest 91-96 240 with a rebuilt motor.

+1 on that.
I looked at 8 or so 240's before I found one that was perfect and a good price. Look for the owner that's really really old.
stock. for $5500
i dont need to read the rest of the post.
it's not worth it.
don't waste your time, move on, find another car

I've looked at around 4 240's in person including this one, Searching the Internet since around November 2012. Sometimes you get lucky and buy one of an old man but inorder to buy one of a person like that is like winning the lotto...

Not worth it I would only buy a kouki but that's my opinion when it comes to s14. I am a fastback rps13 Lover! If you really want a zenki s14 that one for that high of a price it better be original engine under 100k and perfect everything. that one is Not worth it for sure. best of luck patience pays off

Let the guy know that you never get the money back you put into the car (some people need to hear that) so 5,500 is pretty overpriced for being stock (IMO), like zombiewolf said put a fair price you got in your head and place the money on the car bet you he'd take it.

Everything works on the car such as the A.C. There's 150,000 miles on the chassis.
I'm not a very patient person it get boring looking at ads after ads. I buy things that sounds good or if I get convinced like my car that I bought...

I told him that but he just would go lower. I offered him on the spot $4500(he said No!), Then $5000(still said No)

that sounds like my car, minus the rebuilt motor. It was stock, never raced, everything was in perfect order (for the most part) and I only paid $2700. I paid a lil more than i wanted to since i bought it from an older neighbor too. $5500 is WAY too much

just move on from that car man its not worth it, some people these days act like their 240 is worth its weight in gold, it took me about a year to get the (all stock)s13 i wanted for a decent price. if it was a kouki it wouldnt be a bad price. Trust me I'm one hell of an inpatient dude, its hard to wait but when you get the car you've been looking for at a good price its that much more satisfying.

You said the motors been rebuilt? Thats one hell of uh red flag. Who's to say the rebuild was done right? I wouldn't trust this car or the owner.

yeah 90% of the time when something is rebuilt and rebuilt wrong, or something has really gone wrong ( blown engine, head gasket etc ) is when people really start wanting to sell it. nobody wants to sell a car 300 miles after a full rebuild

Go ahead and shoot the bullet and test your luck. Patience and research is really the key to these damn cars. Especially that they're old cars, what you really wanna do is spend the least possible amount of money on the one you find because when you buy it be sure that the rest of the money you have, you're gonna be putting it in it just to get it to what you want it to be.
Do the calculations and think about it hard, nothing good comes from being inpatient. Don't take this as me bashing on your thread or no where near being pessimistic, just a heads up. Seeing the age you are, I'm sure you don't know what you're in store for with these cars. Just trying to help you realize that although it sounds nice and clean and well worth the price, but I mean dude come on, it's almost a 20 year old car, issues are bound to come up with it, could be mechanically, could be cosmetic, etc. big or small the shit starts to add up.
Trust, believe and learn. I learned everything the hard way and really wish I would've listened to some of the guys on here.
But by all means if you like the car, no one is stopping you from buying it because at the end of the day you buy what you like and if it's worth it to you, then fuck it, welcome to the S Chassis fam. :wavey:
BTW.....very nice maroon hatch up there, sir.
I got mine for $2000 from a grandma. Original owner, Auto DOHC 120k OG miles, power everything, wingless, non sunroof, cherry caca brown interior with uncracked dash. And only took me a week to find it after selling my two tone. Researched hard to find it and luckily I found it on Craigslist and local too. And coupe S13s are getting much harder to find than S14's, just saying you can find a clean S14.

I'm always thinking about it doing the calculations, like if I buy it stock or beat up.
Such as; Needs paint, high millage on engine, Auto(looking for one that's stick shift, yes I know they're harder to find knowing people f*ck around with them more)
I the thing I hate is when looking for a car and they have he number to call/text and I send them a msg and no reply, then I call and no answer. I leave a msg with my name and number and no call back... That being said is what is leaning me to get the car...
Not worth it move on. Just keep your money easily accessible for when you find a sweet deal.
you said rebuild? does the owner have rebuild paper work from a shop or did they just say they did it themselves? you said you need one for school but dont jump into it!!! but only you can make that decision. make sure you look it all over and ask as many questions as possible about that "rebuilt motor"

1996 Completely clean and stock should run about $2000. I got mind for $1500 with the maf connector needing to be replaced. $5500 is over priced unless it has a brand new SR swap in it that has everything like AC/Heater, power steering, etc etc.

Why dont you ask YOURSELF if its worth it to you? Ultimately, its your money and going to be your car. With that said, you can throw KBB numbers of $3500 and the guy will probably laugh at you. I paid $2700 for my 95 S14, but I basically bought it for the body since I swapped in everything I had from my last car (suspension, engine, seats, kouki front end, etc).
