Sup Zilvia, just looking for some input from anyone that may have been in a similar situation.
Picked up a Q45 recently, car was cool but the transmission went out about a week later, lol. What a lemon. Anyways, didn't want to spend the $2000+ for a new reman transmission since it would have been worth more than the car, etc. Decided to try and source a junkyard transmission.
Found one after searching for awhile that ended up being about ~100 miles one way from me. Whatever, I need to get the car running so when I had time off from school, I decided to go pick it up. Get there, the tranny has been pulled from the car and all that good stuff. Picked it up for $330 after taxes, the guy at the junkyard said the it was pulled and in great condition after they 'inspected' it, the car it came out of had 130k miles on it (my car has 250k before the tranny went out lol), and that it ran well, the car was just totaled out due to theft.
So anyways, load up the transmission, take it back the 100 miles back home. At this point, school starts back up for me so the time to get under the car and get the transmission out/in just doesn't seem obtainable at this point. I decide to let my buddies garage do the transmission swap for me for $400.
Swap goes easy. When they are testing the car out with the transmission, they notice that one of the clutch packs is going bad and it doesn't go into reverse, etc.
Basically, the transmission I bought is probably worse off than the one I had in there (mine just wouldn't shift past 2nd gear, but I could at least drive it around the town). The junkyard gave me a 30 Day warranty and on the receipt it says CREDIT or EXCHANGE.
Now my question is, what would be the best move here? I know for sure they do not have another Q45 sitting in their yard (I looked) so they would not be able to exchange my transmission; even if they did, I don't trust them anymore. I also don't really feel like making the 200 mile round trip just to drop off a transmission that I paid to have put into my car, having to take it out or something, or even drop off the transmission that is already out of my car now. I know that I might, but does anyone think that I will have a chance of getting my money back without having to go through all that hassle? I paid with a credit/debit card and have receipts, the garage has a car now that is worse off than when it came in and I still don't have a car to drive around to school lol.
I'm probably just going to have it rebuilt now and drop more $$$ but what's the best way out of this situation?
