Well I dont really care what it is, but hey, itd be nice to know. There are two sections in it, one is filled with a brownish red pasty substance, the other is White pasty substance. Basically I want to know if that is supposed to be cleaned out or what. its disgusting. and the rest of the intake is all dirty and gross so im cleaning it. This thing was on the bottim inner side of the intake like between intake and block. can I just clean it out or what. thanks.

Dude, I think you need to find a sonic cleaning place in your area. When ever I read your posts I start windexing my desk. Save your self the trouble and risk, pay the 100-150$.

I just wanted to know because it was such a nicely colored and consistent matierial, it seems like it was some special crap that had to do with emissions so i didnt know if I could just clean it out. I have a parts washer that I can clean it in. I know its not going to be nearly as nice looking as sonic cleaning but I dont care about the look. So does anybody know what this solenoid does.
Oh and ive been looking for places that do it, if anybody knows a place in michigan, ill do it. sheit if anybody knows of anybody in michigan who even knows what an sr20 is id like to know. it seems everybody here is into civics or crappy looking 80s firebirds.

That looks like an IACV of some sort..is there a little spring like mechanism inside one of the chambers?

It's an Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) and the other valve (can't remember the name), raises the idle to compensate for load when the A/C is turned on.

ok, I read the FSM, I have one on cd from a ca18 and found that it is diff looking but same thing pretty much. and read up on it, I swear it said something a lil dif, like not about the ac, well I dont have ac anymore, and the solenoid on this thing is seized. so do I really need it or does it have other functions as well. because I know like you said there are two different solenoids of sorts on this mechanism. Do you think the usdm sr20 on the se-r is the same. thanks.

anybody, I mean the rest of the engine is pretty sound looking, well it will be when I get my parts washer from harbor freight. but I have no clue on where I could get a new one of these iacv things.. and this one looks pretty seized dont wanna mess with it though incase im out of luck on finding a new one. (I usually mess things up worse then when I found it, if I start tearing things apart.)

You absolutely need it to control your idle speed. Clean it out in your parts cleaner or get a brush and brake cleaner and clean it out really good. A lot of idle issues can be corrected just by cleaning this valve. Make sure that when you put it back on, you use a new gasket. You can get a gasket here:

well hey it seems like you're doing the same thing im doing. I just took apart my intake manifold and cleaned the insides to hell, now its all shiny silver inside. Yes thats your iacv valve and it doesnt look in good shape. Mine just had a lil carbon inside the spring. WHat i did is i got some sea foam and sprayed the inside of the iacv vavle. The valve being dirty is a cause of alot of sr idle problems. So yes clean it! YOu need it!

screw it, I cant put it in my parts washer becuase it has the other valve on it that is electrical and it wont come off. the one that is hexagon shaped. the other valve thing is just round that came off fine. but the actual valve part is seized. Im going to get an intake manifold from an infiniti g20 for like 50 bucks unless you guys tell me its different. I went to a search page for 2.0L sentra. and it said the g20 is same. Im just going to pray that it uses the same IACV. or Ill buy a brand new one from NIssan. still praying that the usdm sr20de is the same. it looked pretty much the same in the dealer program they have on the computer. somebody fill me in if they arent. thanks.
