Thing looks like it will be slow lol. Regardless of whether or not you like the car you have to appreciate the type of creativity, mechanical know-how, and fabrication skills that it takes to make something like this happen.

I think the front widebody looks okay, however the rear widebody was made to compliment a frs not a s chassis, so that doesn't look very good. Not to mention the sideskirts are pretty bland as well. In addition to that he put a $25k vr38 in a less than $2k shell and no matter what you do to that car I won't be a very good high speed chassis, its just too light and small.

Don't get me wrong its a very well put together car, I just think its the wrong motor in the wrong car with the wrong bodykit built for the wrong purpose..

Not much love on Zilvia for the kit eh? I am suprised.

Can't say I like the bonnet but I do like the original concept (ie the fenders and skirt). His ductail wing from the old kit sets it off.
I am not a huge fan of the old kit but this one works for me.

I wonder how much info on the Speedhunters site is correct. For starters it's a Fuel Safe fuel cell rather than an ATL fuel cell...

Cheers

Hoooooly shit that looks way better. I guess the flat paint and jacked up hood and headlamps don't really help this cars case.

Also, that rear quarter angle photo is defiantly this cars best side. Concept or real version. The front end is just so.... bleh.

I agree. Best quarter is the rear. Front bar is the weakest part.
I have wondered what Ikeya Formula bumper (Koguchi version) with these fenders would look like. It looks fantastic with Kouchi overfenders so I reckon it would be a good option for people who want to run wide wheels. Pity it's no longer made.

During the build process I assumed it would end up gross because Rocket Bunny aero generally looks terrible, particularly on 180SX's. However, it actually ended up looking quite nice, especially for a race car. Sadly, it can even put most of today's drift cars to shame.

The ride height and wheel fitment play a big role, naturally. Though they will probably end up raising it and ruining it with decals and race car junk. :)

Too much camber on the front. 18 x 10.5 +15 would have been spot on assuming these are the same width as the old Rocket Bunny. (The Enkei's shown are 18x11 aparently but no mention of offset)

Where do you get $25k for a VR38? Regardless, that sort of logic is rather appalling. Extending that logic, wouldn't a LS- swap be stupid since it costs more than the shell? And I'm generally pretty sure that this car was built with something other than the completely misguided "stance" trend of form over function in mind...

Regardless of how this thing looks, The amount of work it took to accomplish the goals of the project is pretty solidly impressive, and on a totally different level than anyone else right now.

My only question is, where are the awesome brakes that are going to haul this monster down from record speed?

I get that it's an unfinished car, so maybe that's one of many things left to finish. It was said that the glass and hatch were left off to show off the fabrication at TAS.

Being a hatch owner myself, I want to see this go places. Everyone is so bent on building coupes these days.

An 1100 hp vr38? Yes I think that would cost about 25k, and I do think LS swapped 240s are stupid, but that's a whole other can of worms. Also, I never said anything about stance so idk why you mentioned it.

Like I said before I admire the car from an engineering/craftsmanship standpoint. I can see why people like it, just like I can see why people like buttsex, but I don't.

simmode1
01-19-2013, 05:30 PM
This car is purpose-built to withstand traveling at 250mph and whatever abuse the owner can throw at it when drifting. 'Stupid' is not an adjective I'd use to describe it.

Visually, there are some aspects I don't like. I usually don't like extreme aero that strays too far from OEM styling, but the front bumper and fender flares really help update the S13's looks and help it rival modern contemporaries like the FRS, IMO.

I think more will grow to like it when the hatch and windows are finally installed. I wanna see the completed version parked next to a Rocket Bunny 86.

Roscoe.

Nearly any power goal over 300 is going to cost more than the shell. I'm just not following your logic. I mentioned stance in direct relation to form over function as a trend, as one of your major critiques of the car was the look of the wide kit, which is obviously a function over form choice on a car like this, that's all. I'm not trying to say you're wrong for not liking it, or your opinion is wrong, I'm just not following your logic regarding the motor choice, and (perhaps unfairly) was using your critique of the body of the car as a launching point to say that for a car like this the form over function trend inspired by the "stance" trend is a poor way to think.

It's the swap from their R35 but that driveline was based around a Hollinger sequential and an R34 rear end, so it's RWD :)

I think everyone comments on its looks (including me) simply because that is the only point of contention. Most people agree that Ben Sopra has done an amazing job with it, such as the engine and the swap, pulling it off etc. and thats the reason its aesthetics are discussed, because its the only point of the car some people don't agree with.

and yes the RB kit is good on certain cars but it just doesn't work here - it looks as though someone stuck a compressor in a piece of gum.

So many haters here haha

Appreciate the worksmanship instead of being elitists. Not like you guys can rock something like this right now anyway.

Would love just a basic inline 6 into my daily S13 beater but seeing something like this; a 90's car being used for professional racing is amazing. The old Nissan engineers are having a toast, never thought their secretary car would come this far. (Take a hint Nissan, lets see your S16)

Mean while Porsche laughs.

Haters gonna hate!

I actually like the car and kit. I guess it's just my opinion though.

Just a heads up VIS is starting to make the rocket bunny kit.. so for all those cool kids not looking to drop 2k on a kit, better start saving and hit me up. Ill be getting back my vendor privileges at the end of this month and start a group buy. PM me if interested.

I love this thread. Shows how much 90% of you hate function and prefer looks over performance... no wonder why you all have 240's xD hahaha.

I do love the cars look, not the front bumper but the rest of the car looks amazing. The engine is not my preference as well but I am sure it will meet their needs.

While at it...
