My first modification will be making the car lower and tighter. This might ne a noob question but I dont care, I come to you all for answers.

Im not looking for height adjustments or damper changes. I dont really need to change camber setting at the moment. So my question is what is the difference between a shock/spring combo and coil overs??

AadosX told me that I am looking for a 7/6 spring rate (tell me if I am wrong) I have a huge gap to get rid of and dont like how the car bounces. I want to do this right, so any help would be great. All the poeple who like to reply "repost, stupid newb, or SEARCH" :fawk2: :naughtyd:

Since you don't care for much adjustability, and only care for height change. Get Ground Control coilovers with AGX shocks or something.

Why do you need 7/6 spring rates?

What kind of car is it?

Coilovers are more for the person who will be willing to adjust things, camber plates can always be installed on shock/spring combo. If you want higher spring rates you can get some budget coilovers that have no adjustments. Tanabe makes a couple budget ones.

i'd say go for cut springs.... j/k :)

well ground control+agx and coilovers cost almost the same...
what kind of budget are you looking for in this?? and what will you use the suspension for.... just for looks? or performance/handling?

cheapo spring/shock combo (KYB GR2 + Pros/whiteline/etc) $500 and under for slightly better performance and the lowered look.

cheap performance (KYB AGX + your choice spring) $650-ish for adjustable stiffness, lowered and better then stock cornering.

i would only get 1k+ coilovers if i was really going to do track events drift, autox and road course etc.

7/6 is pretty stiff. exactly what are you doing with this car? the stuff in (***) is just my opinion... plenty of other options. u can kill fender gap with spring/shock and the right choice of wheel/tire. a spring shock combo is on a budget... if ur looking at a combination that will run you 800+ fuck it and get coilovers instead.

Look into Tein basics. Any spring/shock combo is going to diminish your suspension travel. Besides, you can't go very low on spring/shocks on these cars. Not in the front at least.

Thanks guys. This is why I like this forum

KiDyNomiTe- I dont care about height adjustments. I am not that into racing yet. I want a setup that will get rid of the gap and eliminate the bouncing over bumps. I dont know why I need a 7/6, AadosX suggested this for what I will be doing (mostly city driving and the monthly autoX in the florida keys) I drive a 93 240sx se

Bbandit- cut springs are for civics and the weekly tire change. I dont really have a budget, but dont want to pay for a set of race coils that get no use. When I start autoXing and drifting on a more serious level, I will go for the goods. I want both looks and performance. But I hate stiff springs. I want a ride that can hold its own when I drive hard, but wont have to get out and roll it over speedbumps and manholes.

aznpoopy- I was looking at the KYB AGX w/ s-techs. It seems reasonable for what I need. You sound like you know your shit, so what do you suggest for a 240 with 17s on 225/45/17 rubbers.

Only reason I brought up the GCs is because you seem to want it to look nice, and height adjustability is good for that, and that little of autocross.

If you had posted about a month ago, my friend had a set of GCs+AGXs for cheap. But back the spring rate thing, most springs are not close to 7/6 more around 3-5 range. Tanabe makes coils for S13s for 1091 (from tougefactory), its either 8/6 or 7/6 or 7/5. It has height adjustability and damper adjustability, but I don't know of any 7/5 and upward springs that aren't on coilovers.

There is a groupbuy for D2/Ksport coilovers on NICO in the classifieds section. $600+$60shipping with optional $60 pillow ball mounts. $720 shipped, with $20 discount for paying by check/money order. It's only a bit more than a spring/shock combo.
GB is open until April 5th, and I'm calling and paying tomorrow.

Anyone have a picture of a 240 with the s techs installed on an s13?

On the S-Techs, they do a nice job of lowering, still some gap, and that will happen with just about every spring. Coilovers and Ground Control coilovers do the best w/ elimating wheel gap.

mmm, you know, actually, coilovers can be MORE bouncy in certain situations...

check out apexi world sport or D2s.

if you just want a good drop, there are some good springs with an awesome drop, but you'll also need good shocks to go along with it. kg/mms are pretty good as well, eibach sportlines, or like someone said, ground control.
