There is an extremely loud ticking noise everytime I rev. It's a pretty constant ticking. I was just wondering if this could be common? Or if anyone has any ideas of what it may be!
very common, most likely your timing chain guides.
if you do some searching, you'll find the guide on fixing the problem.

Yeah it's definatly not that noise. It's more when I rev. Like if I'm coasting it dosent make the noise. And it's loud it make the car sound like a go cart at a amusement park. Would be my best way of discribing it ahhahah
i see... record a video?? your lifters maybe?

your chain is probably loose and is hitting something. pull the valve cover and look

Lucky for you I just did a good amount of research on this first thing I would say is
.check your oil and make sure its not lifter noise
.make sure your fan shroud is not hitting your fan or any other afermarket components or wiring you may have added
. Check all tensioners, their only meant to last around 60k miles although they most likley work for a lot longer just make sure their not loose or can wiggle
. Alternator..... I'm not to sure about this but I did read one persons alternator was causing some ticking noise and once thee alternator was replaced the ticking went away.....
One more thing was anything recently done to the car?

Thanks for the advice David. And I beleive it may be a lifter tick. And no there hasn't been I've been in the market for a 240 for the last couple years. And the kid I got it off of just drove it around. Finally got him to sell, he dosent know very much about cars, shit neither do I but I know enough to at least work on them a bit. He said he had it. Checked out and it could be a lifter tick. If I pull off the valve cover I should be able to tell if its that right?

Take the valve cover off and push on all the rockers. If there are any play in them, either they are collapsed and need to rebuilt or replaced, or they are destroyed like mine were haha

No no, taking off the valve cover isn't neccasary yet. first try adding about 300 ml of oil or 8 oz and see if the ticking gets any quieter. Than report back

Added oil. Same ticking noise persists!

Take the valve cover off. Usually the timing chain guide breaks off and causes this rattle.

Use thicker oil. Do an oil change and put thicker oil (not synthetic) I used synthetic and day later loud lifter noise so changed out and put 10w40 and ticking noise went away whithin 30 mins. Might work for u.

It takes 15 mins to take the valve cover off. Doesn't hurt anything. Why keep spending money on oil when he can take off the valve cover and see if a lifter is bad?
thicker weight oil may help

check your exhaust manifold bolts. if the ticking gets louder and sounds like a go kart, you might have an exhaust leak. you might have to remove the heat shield though.

Hate to bring up an old thread let alone steal one but do you really think it could be the manifold? I have the same problem on my dohc and whenever it was in my black hatch it sounded fine, but whenever I switched to my blue hatch it started making a loud tick from what sounded like the exhaust side of the cams. Also noticed a little bit of smoke come out of the mani when reved.
