What mods do you guys think it will take for a 5 speed 97 240sx to beat a RSX type-S??
it will take alot ....... we're pulling about 7.8 0-60 they're pullin about 6.7 0-60..... so alot to drop just that one second

While they do weigh in at a realtively chunky 2767lbs, they have a great gearbox, and 200hp. A guy I know put 169 to the wheels in his stock Type S. To beat it with a stock 240, you would need a bod driver in the RSX.

Beat who at what? 0-60 acceleration RSX type-s should win hands down. On a small road course or auto-x a stock 240 can prove quite potent. At that point I think it would be up to the driver. IIRC HippoSleek, you were pretty happy with the way his stock 240 performed at VIR earlier this fall.

Matt! Welcome. Long time no see. What happened with that TAS - did you go or is it yet to happen (grumble grumble).
Okay, perhaps I was a bit harsh on the 240 (and shockingly guilty of limiting myself to straight line thinking :o). I also left out the KA-T, which does not require a swap. Anyway, it was actually Jefferson Circuit at Summit (I didn't make VIR last week b/c I was stoopid) and they were ITRs . JC is a much tighter course w/ lower speed straights.
So the new analysis (bone stock brand new cars with similarly matched drivers incl. familiarity w/ RWD vs FWD): strip: RSX-S, hands down, even w/ a bad driver. Autox: RSX-S, not by much and maybe only b/c it has LSD. Torque is just too important there, but the higher speeds, the more it will win. Track: good race on a brake intensive short circuit... if there are long straights or slight bends, the RSX will eventually blend into the horizon as the 240 is just out powered.

so S14's are even more chunky???
I would think a well moded N/A DOHC S13 would stand the best chance at being even with the Type S.... for an S14, simply turbo, but even that's overkill. Of course, you can get an S14 with a turbo for a lot less than $25,000.....

Yeah it has been a while I still have to meet up with you for that beer! I just started coming around here cause FA has been broken and dramatic as of late . Anyway TAS is a go for January . I will be there from the 9th to the 17th, I can't wait.
As for the RSX dose the types-s come with the LSD? I thought that was still reserved for the type-r. Some s14's come equipped with a VLSD which is in my opinion only slightly better than an open differential. And the breaks don't get me started on the breaks. Short course or auto-x I agree the driver would be the deciding factor. Large course you could hunt the RSX in the corners but there is no way you will out break or accelerate him.

Acouple things First.
1. the RSX does not Have LSD.
2 0-60 in 6.7 is not realistic in the RSX the average is about 7.0 - 7.2 (the mags a wrong). They also say 1/4 mile at 14.6. There's not a singles person faster than 14.9 at clubrsx.com, and the average is 15.1 -15.5
also - I KNOW I will get my ass kicked stock for stock. But I'm wanting to know what I'll need to kick my roommates Type-S He doesn't have the money to mod, b/c of his $540 monthly payment.
That given in a straight line drag race, say 1/4 mile. What would it take? I would prefer not NOS, and a turbo is just too expensive. Would it not be possible without those?

sorry about the LSD thing *ducks another tomato* Its really tough to compare since I've not seen one running yet to see where it would be classed in an autox or track day.
As for the numbers - it's a Honda - it will only get faster as it gets broken in. If they got lower #'s someone will get them soon. The other problem is that this is not a 0-60 you are talking. The faster/longer you have to go, the more that car's gearing will insure you will lose (although my money is to race him ASAP b/f he learns how to manage a six-speed). You could throw on an exhaust and intake and and maybe get up to 20 hp less than the RSX... you still lose. I think, short of a turbo, you have to spray or admit defeat!
Ace - s14 is about the same weight as an RSX-s. s13 coupe is about 50 lbs less. Not really enough to matter.
uu - beer for sure... I'll drop you an off board message. I agree with the FA drama. Great info, but Jesus, those some of those people really need to lighten up. You'll notice some FA ghosts around here who just don't like all the over-serious BS.
