I've just started to notice my brakes squeaking pretty badly. It's really bugging me. But does it mean that I need new pads? I think so, but my dad disagrees and says that they would be making a grinding noise if they were low. I think that the squeaking is the wear indicator thingy that squeaks when they need replacement. Who is right?

I agree with you. Replace them and use lots of brake grease on the shims and all should be fixed.

haha your dad is hilarious... by the time your car is making a grinding noise...youll have to replace the rotors as well... i was pretty lazy so i lagged on replacing my pads...next thing i knew... i chewed up half of my rotor...and all of my pad... ill show pics later...hahaha damn that was stupid...

Just don't cheap out and buy the crappy pads! My old man insist on purchasing the cheapest the part store has for his vehicle, and they squeak horribly after a few hundred miles.

Some intermediate street-track pads squeak when used on the street so it's not a sign of a bad pad. He prolly just needs to degrease everything.

the easiest thing to do is to you know... check your brake pads and see how much is left.
oh, and grinding = metal to rotor = bad = having to replace rotor. take a guess as to how i know that.

they should be fine. last time i checked, they had plenty of pad left. i think it might be the compound that was used or something.

I think maybe it's the new tires that I got over the weekend causing it. They grip much more, so maybe the brakes aren't being given the chance to slip as much or something.
Anyway, I'm probabaly going to go with that group buy for the brake kit anyway, but I was just wondering if I'd have to do it immediately.
