View Full Version : Doing a lot of things and I have a lot of questions

hey good morning zilvia, I'm pretty new to this forum although i was registered here since 2008. Back in 2008 i had an s13 hatch with an sr20 swap, i was extremely young (16) and pretty much was just looking for a fun turbo car and my pops was willing to buy it for me. long story short i didn't do any maintenance to that car, not even check the oil and the motor blew. got rid of that for dirt cheap. fast forward a couple of years and a lot of cars later (RX-7, GSX ECLIPSE, FORD EXPLORER, AND MY MOST RECENT AN EVO) i learned a lot. Not by posting but by reading everything i can. i just recently picked up a 1991 coupe SE. i got it for a decent price. its an automatic so first thing is first, 5SPD swap, next thing inline is the motor has a bottom end knock so I'm currently ripping the motor out to rebuild it. SO on to the topic, i picked up some parts locally for the 5PSD swap and i cant tell whether the driveshaft i picked up is an automatic or manual driveshaft. The guy tells me its 5spd but mocking it up to the automatic one it looks exactly identical which i know its not supposed to. so i was wondering if anyone has a comparison pic of both or can tell by the picture if it an auto or manual. next is the flywheel, again the guy told me its for a manual car but the dowels for the pressure plate don't line up at all so i was wondering if someone had a picture of an automatic flywheel so i can see if it looks the same. On to the motor, what can i expect to be doing to this thing? i know for sure its a spun bearing but what else should i expect to be spending money on? Also the car is a 1991 so the body and paint aren't perfect, i will do everything in my knowledge to fix the body. Last but shouldn't be a surprise is the rust lol. there is rust right by the drivers rear seat where it bolts down. I'm pretty much going to cut the rusted area out and weld a new plate in place. now the question is i have a pair of recaro seats from an evo i just picked up and was wondering what seat rails i can use. I'm not rich and obviously my parents don't give me anything anymore besides food and a roof to stay under lol. pretty much this is a little build. i work on my own cars and have my own tools so everything will be done at home. I am only looking for help I'm not looking for people talking smack, i just need suggestions, and answers if you can. I dont need older people telling me what to spend my money or time on, so dont come in here telling me I am __ old and i need to move out of my house, that will come in time. and i dont need younger people sponsored by mom and pops telling me any BS please just helpful responses. That is in fact an auto flywheel. Sorry man. The driveshaft however I'm not sure. It resembles the one I pulled from my 91 I think, been a few years though. Tell ya what, if it won't work I have a 5 speed driveshaft I will ship you if you pay for shipping. I can take a look tonight and verify if it's just like yours.

But that rust...holy shit. One of the worst I've seen. I wouldnt even drive it. I'd be scared of going thru the damn floorboard, literally. Did you inspect around the shock tower? I'd be worried of them being rotted out like the floor board and your whole tower just blows up while driving it.

Thanks for the help i had a feeling it wasnt a 5spd and the guy isnt answering me anymore.... I've inspected the whole car and it has MINOR rust here and there but the worst of it all is the floorboard. The shock towers are in great condition though, no rust.

SO after a very nice day out here in NYC i got the motor and transmission pulled out of the car. These are the only 2 pictures i got to take because the sun was starting to set and i had to clean up. ill take more pics tomorrow afternoon or very early morning. another thing i may have decided on today was possibly a KA-T build im not too sure yet.

good luck on your rebuild! since the motor is out i would pay attention to body work! nothing but some sheet metal and weld would do the trick.

so i haven't really done anything to the car since i took the motor out until yesterday. i bought an s14 ka at around 2pm and had it in by 5pm. of course not running because i had to cut the holes for the master, so i finished that today, installed the slave and master. installed the drive shaft, rewired to P/N switch. filled the tranny up, installed the shifter, all thats left to do is install the radiator, hoses, and some vacuum lines. i will be doing all of this tomorrow and hopefully i will be finished with the motor. then on to the body and floorboard. lets see what happens.
