Ok so here's the deal I just recently finished cleaning up and redoing my ca18det swap into a s13 vert. Good every thing hooked up and ready to go... And it won't start! Just cranks and cranks and cranks, It's getting fuel and spark and has good compression. I did some reading and I figured I'd do a ecu diagnostic, and I threw a cas code.. I pulled it out span the lobe and the injectors clicked. So it should mean its working? So I pulled the coilpacks and double checked for spark.. Found out the coilpacks to cylinders 2 and 3
would spark once then wouldn't spark again, while cylinders 1 and 4 are sparking constantly. I have no idea what the hell is going on and would
appreciate any help

Oh! Idk if its any help but before I pulled the motor to clean everything up I kept blowing alt fuses, not knowing that my alternator was grounding out on its self. It stopped running at the same time. I blew the first one.

I'm in the same boat you are man. Put a ca18det in my 89 hatch and it's not starting. Just cranks and cranks. I'm gettin spark and my fuel pump is kicking on so I'm getting fuel. What fuel pump are you using?

Checked the ecu codes on mine and it said code 34 which I believe is a knock sensor

I'm using a new walboro 255.. I found a dude that's gonna send me a cas to try. Il let post my results. But yeah a knock sensor would keep it from starting. Do you know if the ca ran before you swapped it to your hatch?

I bought it from a engine company so I'm not sure

Casperjay

You should see if that company would let you swap it out for one with out knock sensor issues

I don't have the knock sensor wired in. I never wired it when I swapped it think that could be it?

Casperjay

Ah yeah it probably just needs wired in

What's the best way to go about that?

Don't know, I'm no wiring expert lol I would look into wiring diagrams.

check the timing. probably it was 180 degrees out.

Checked timing a million times. If it was out of time would it cause it to throw a cas code? Maybe I'm doing something wrong

put some starter fluid in your manifold before you turn it over

Ca's don't have distributors

I also checked timing. Seemed to be on. Tdc the marks lined up so it's good

check the inside of the cam where the sensor goes into to see if the key is broken off. you might need new cams.

A knock sensor won't keep your car from starting.

As stated, the knock sensor wont prevent the car from starting. It is there to monitor engine noise and adjust timing maps. Are you gettting fuel at the injectors? Check for clicking when you rotate the CAS or the resistance with a multimeter.

I spun the cas and my injectors clicked.

I don't think the keys broke. The one in the cam looks fine and the one In the cas looksfine

it happens that the key turn into the cam, check, if you can, with another cam if it moved from its original position.

Sounds like a fried ecu.

Find someone with a good working ecu to try out?

Not sure what else. Sorry .

have you figured your ca issue out yet??

Question ..... How do you get the code from the ECU .. I see a few write-ups but it's not to clear to go about doing it ... So could someone please explain it to me step by step ..... I having a problem my Ca is dumping alot fuel to the plugs .... Thank's

I'd Check the cps

Are the fuel lines correct? In on the rail, out on the FPR

Tried new ecu. Starts now but doesn't wanna stay alive idles roughly for a few seconds then dies. If I give it some throttle repeatedly it wil stay alive and back fire. Timing?

MAF voltage / wiring

that MAF can be a serious PITA

Il check it real quick

Unplugged maf and it's doing the same thing but it's way smoother/ takes longer to die
