View Full Version : What do i have to do to install my kouki tail lights

I was trying to put my 180sx kouki tail lights but the connectors dont match do i have to cut those connectors and splice the wires or should i get 180sx tail light wiring harness.

Yes splice them with your old tailight plugs.

so cut both of the connectors off..on the tail lights it self and the connectors in the car and splice the wires together

Yes, I would advise not just splicing together by twisting the wires and putting electrical tape as this could possibly come loose with bumps and whatnot. Also, if there is ever a time you need to remove the lights it would kind of be a pain.
I would recommend going to Radio shack and picking up some wire connectors so you are able to have the same connectors on both the Cars wire harness and the new taillights for easy hookup. You could always use spade connectors.

But he wouldn't be able to remove them without cutting them off again if need be. I personally like the connector way as i am always able to remove completely without cutting wires and then re-soldering if i have to, and I've never had an issue this way.

They do have the right size connectors. You specify how many wires will be in each connector. Here is an example.

Not entirely sure, but I think I de-pinned my sockets?? Just don't remember cutting soldering or taping. I really wanna look now. shit!

ya i finally put mine on but we soldered the wires instead of using butt connectors came out damn good they look nice..lol

reviving with a question.. i've been searching all over and have all the answers i need except what to use for re sealing the kouki lights? any suggestions would be great

If by 're-sealing' you mean the tacky material that seals water and debris out behind the tails lights...
you can get the stuff from a Nissan parts dealer or some have used similar material from 3m.

i improvised with windsheild sealant thanks for the info tho, if it doesnt work i'll go to nissan

its called Butyl rubber, they sell it at Advance, autozone, etc. for future searchers.
