排気パーツ Exhaust Parts - POWERED BY MAX (http://www.gtfactory.jp/cms/page.php?19)

Went to the PBM site this morning and saw this beast. It isn't new apparently, but it is now for sale, which is new. Pretty damn cool in my book. Their design and craft work, soup to nuts. I admire that type of originality.

For $1,200 you can destroy a lot of boom tubes from scraping.

... buuuut this doesn't scrape. It sits above the frame rails. Hence the oval.

What ever. delete

I'd rather blow up four $300 exhausts than have one $1,200 exhaust.

I've got a Moonface downpipe to ISIS 3" straight pipe with 4" tips that is fully above the frame rails. Chopped all the hangers and welded them higher. Way cheaper.

Moonface DP is fucking expensive. If you already have it, thats one thing, but I guess the PBM Cobra would be another good alternative, it includes the turbo elbow.

Corbic, I'm starting to think you and I are part of a small minority who actually appreciate what it is that PBM has done.

The majority of the 240 community has more of a "I can buy 50 cans of Spaghetti-O's for the price of 1 nice Italian dinner " attitude.

PBM makes awesome stuff. It's just that most 240 owners are broke as hell. I'm totally okay with dropping a bunch of money on COOL parts, but not for just an exhaust. Especially if the exhaust costs more than my car originally was when I got it...

I have to disagree with you on that quote regarding exhausts.

If anything it's "I'd rather eat for 50 days a home-cooked meal than for 1 day an Italian meal"

IMO its better to get a custom exhaust to your specs and needs rather than a "cookie-cutter" exhaust.

A custom exhaust can be made for much cheaper and work just as good or better for your likings.

Sort of like BRM exhausts back in the day

its expensive because the dowel used to oval the pipes is expensive to replace (From what I remember reading.

Uh, I think you are miss understanding me. While the $1,200 price is understandable, oval tubing is expensive, and this exhaust had a lot of work... its just not worth it in my book.

$250 - $400 buys you any number of exhaust systems, so if you destroy them scrapping - you'd have to destroy 4-5 of them before you go "fuck, should have bought that PBM setup".

Yes sir.

3 Inch Oval Stainless Tubing 40 Inches long - Oval Tubing - Straight Lengths - 3" OVAL TUBING 30VL-40SS - SpinTech Performance Mufflers (http://www.spintechmufflers.com/oval-tubing/straight-lengths/3-oval-tubing-30vl-40ss/prod_100.html)

$85 for 40-inches

compared to

$32 for 40 inches of round.

3" Round Exhaust Tubing - Round Tubing - Round Tubing Straight Lengths - 30RD-40..3" ROUND TUBING, 40" long - SpinTech Performance Mufflers (http://www.spintechmufflers.com/round-tubing/round-tubing-straight-lengths/30rd-40-3-round-tubing-40-long/prod_721.html)

Pretty much explains why this is 2-3 times more expensive then a normal boom-tube set up.

Using FRSport's website, I added to cart all Megan exhaust parts. Cat-back, test pipe, downpipe, elbow.

Total - $728.80

Megan parts are cheap quality, and fitment is never spot on. Not sure where everyone is getting a ball park of $300-$400 for what this PBM system includes.

I'm not building it up as the end all be all. It's not. But what it is can't be had for $300. Stainless, pro fitment, solid mounted, zero clearance issues. I feel it's a good deal, and you can't argue with someone's feelings.

$250. You can match that up with the $350 PBM Cobra pipe and your at less then half.

As others have mentioned, most shops can make you a setup for a few hundred bucks.

When they say axle back, does it really mean axle back or catback?

Doesn't really matter - considering you can't easily mate the oval to a standard 3".

Don't forget a test pipe - $65. Total - $665

Oval piping has more internal area than 3" round. No gaskets to mess with, no flanges to scrape up and bend. I've been there done that with janky set ups. Prices are always high on new products. Give it a year or 2, I'm tellin' ya.

Seraphim38

I wish the moonface downpipe was still available. Would like to run 4" oval piping from the downpipe to the cat, though cat back i already have a custom made stainless mandrel bend system that is awesome.

A full oval system with no mufflers, resonators or cats really limits the applicable market. If they designed one for street use they would sell more units and wouldn't have to charge 1200 for one.

My eBay test pipe was $25, stainless, and has been hit by rumble strips and a bunch of other shit, and it's holding up.

But this is just beating a dead horse, let people buy what they want. PBM stuff is usually of pretty good quality, but also costs a pretty penny.

Local exhaust shop chop hangers, weld that 3" straight above frame or next to, chop flex and put it above bend in dp. 350 done.
Never scrape.

Straight pipe?

Yep, i got a run of the mill elbow, then custom 3in downpipe to full 3in all the way back to dual 3in outlets. No resonator, no muffler, loud as shit, but makes fun fireballs and is 100% above frame- doesn't scrape anything!

North florida cats, check out alan's discount muffler in gainesville.

My exhaust is nowhere near as baller as PBM though.

Ummm, that's how every SR20 with a straight pipe sounds...

Here's the deal guys. Cheapo's will never buy quality parts that are more expensive because they only see it as one part to another.

Why buy PSM arms when ISIS arms are way cheaper?

Why buy PSM knuckles when Godspeeds are way cheaper?

Why buy SPL subframe bushings when eBay ones are cheaper?

ETC, ETC, ETC.

It comes down to two things:

1) Reliability.
2) Supporting the people that continue to innovate and make cool new stuff for us. Not the people that copy the cool stuff and come out with cheapo versions.

Normally I'd agree....

But lets be honest. PBM did not invent oval exhausts nor are they the first to tuck an exhaust.

We are talking about a steel tube with a few spot welds, that's it. What would have been innovative is if PBM could have found a cost effective way to bring this to market. Anyone on here could have gone to a local and made an oval exhaust for $1200.

i disagree, mine didnt sound nearly that bad. Maybe it's because of a poor camera mic or something, but it just sounds weird.

Its gonna be tight near the flexpipe and the trans bellhousing. I actually had to shave down my KA transmission a little around 1 bolt hole to keep from contact.

Not sure why you didn't think this was for sale before. It's been on their site for years. All you have to do is call and ask for it to be made into the full cobra exhaust.
