i was wondering what this is. is this puting new shims for the rocker arms or the shims that hold the retainers to the valves?

i have to get a new head and the guy said i would have to reshim it.

rocker arms. Just to ensure proper valve lash.

You need to get a feeler guage, and then measure the space between the cam lobe, and the shim. There is only supposed to be a certain amount of room. Check the FSM for what the MAX and MIN should be, then guage it, and find out what size shims you need (can only be purchased at Dealership I assume).

:w00t: Over the retainer there is a metal cap that looks like a soda bottle top, but bigger and made of metal...
Over the cap is another peice of metal thats like a magnet that sticks to the cap it comes in diffrent sizes... When the new cam go's in there is less clearence from each other or mabye none at all ,with the a new cam they become worn out really faster...
It is better to change them all at the same time because there will be more dammage if not chaged...
So with all that i've side is that some thimes you most change the little little things for a 5 horse power gain...
