Hey guys,
Im currently building a conversion kit for the s13's USDM headlights.
the lights will include a lazy eye conversion with three types of beams. One can be called a parking light(blue). The other is a fog light(orange-ish) and the third is a spot/high beam(white). I currently have this set up on my car and it is awesome as hell, in my opinion. The lazy eyes, in combination with this unit, which you can control from inside your car as opposed to having to manual adjust the unit, looks great.

As for function, they are great for normal driving. You can adjust the headlights as not to blind anyone. but if you wanted, you can. Hehe, I headed to the hills with this conversion and all i can say is that the fog light and the spot/high beam work great together and provide more than enough illumination for the roads. And also, lets say that it isnt quite dark enough to use your headlights, but it is dark enough for you to turn on your parking lights and such, you can have the parking light on it will give your lazy eyes headlight compartment a nice little blue peak.

here are some pics to show you what i mean.
But like i said, tell me if you guys are interested and I'll get to work on some more units. Housing is also carbon fiber so its super tough.

its not exactly blue, its more like a purple, but those are just the dim/blinker/parking lights.

yeah I would be interested in seeing some closer pictures of the housing and stuff. What are your thinking of in terms of a price?

I wont lie to you guys, this is all top notch stuff.
the lights being used are PIAA lights and they retail online for around 399. the kits also has the headlight height adjuster which you can find for about 80-100 dollars. Also included will be the carbon fiber housing, which is still in the works, and some other electronics and relays and instructions on how to mount. If you are in the Bay Area, I may be able to provide install as well, but Im looking to maybe get about 650 or so out of the package. This is all top quality stuff. But let me know what you guys think. I think some other places have a healight conversion unit with not nearly this kind of flexibility and functionality sell their stuff for around 1000 dollars.........

I think that price is a little steep for me, I am not doubting what you make its just really expensive. Looks similar to the clearcorners conversion if I am not mistaken. I like it, but I just don't have that kind of cash. The new pictures are better too.

I hope you're not speaking of Mike this way...

So you took a PIAA driving light, bolted it to the top of your headlight housing, and are charging $650!? Not to mention that its not street legal because here is no highbeam. good luck :goyou: ....

i've been thinking about modifying the linkage in the headlight so they can be closed and opened in the sleepy position. that way they will always go up to the same height and you don't have to rewire anything. i could probably make and sell them for you guys if you want.

Interesting.

Well on a different side-note, I cant recall if anyone needed S13 H4 ECE Headlamp housings but I just got my new shipment from Hella with high-output bulbs (no relay harness needed). I got some parts to the relay harness but am still waiting for more stuff to come in before thats complete. But, with these new bulbs you wont need relay harnesses because they are still stock 55/60W specs. The harness will increase performance but isnt mandatory. Anyway, if anyone needs a set please send me an e-mail.

As for the kit, you may want to look into actually using a set of headlights instead of driving lamps. Driving lamps dont have a useable lighting pattern, they are just used for additional light.

Would be cool if someone could produce something like Koguchi's headlights, but with modification of such a low profile comes light output sacrifice?

I think they look cool...but....you do need some sort of high beam and a useable beam pattern. They would look really cool once you can fabricate a nice bezel to frame the lights.

...btw, how will you adjust them?

there are two possiblilties with these lights. I mentioned before that the lights have 3 beams in them. the spot beam would act as a high beam, the fog/driving light would be the reg lights, and the parking is just parking so to say. you can adjust the height of the lights with the adjustment of the headlight housing themselves, which is controlled from inside the car through an electronic controller. you can also choose whcih beams to have on from inside the car as well, thats what I meant by having full adjustment capabilities.

Like I said, the beam pattern on the unit has to be used to understand how well they work. I can talk about how well they work, and you guys can retort and say that driving lamps wouldnt give a usuable beam pattern, however, once you do see it working, you can see that it is VERY effective.

Fog lights - these would double as your reg lights for nightly driving. They flood out to the sides and provide a large angle of illumination.

Spot lights - these are angled at a higher degree and can be doubled as a high beam. It also concentrates the light ahead to give you a long range view of the road ahead.

For reg driving, I use the foglights and aim the beam just t the level of the road, this ensures that I dont blind people with my fogs and they privode more than enough illumination.
For touge and drift runs, I turn both beams on and adjust the height, with my height adjuster from inside the car, just a few degrees higher to provide AWESOME illumination of the road ahead of me. the spot provides long range driving illumination IN CONJUCTION with my foglights, which flood out to sides of the car. I cant stress enough how much improvement these are to the stock lights and how great it is to have full control of your lights. Its like buying shocks and springs as opposed to buying coilovers. People buy coilovers because they provide a method of finetuning your suspension to your driving habits and personality. These lights give you full customizable height and light selection without even having to get out of your car!
I have it, I use it, and I wouldnt offer it if I didnt think it was a great unit. Im a 240sx driver and a driving enthusiast, I like these units, at first I was skepticle about this unit the same way you guys are. Is it bright enough? Yeah it is, by a long shot, is it functional? Fuck yes it is. Will i like it and use it? Yes, once you see it, i bet you will like it and its customizable abilities.

I still prefer the real patterns of my in-house projector setup. :) I wouldn't say anything about old_s13... he's the lighting reference here...

well, im not saying anything about old-s13, from what i have read, he's infinitely more knowledgable than I in these matters, but I'm just saying that the light pattern for this unit is very effective. If I came off offending anyone, I didnt mean to, its kind of a seeing is believing thing. But yeah, I thank you for the advice you are giving me. thats why i like these boards, informative and to the point. thanks everyone.
