Mods, can we leave it here and not move it to ot even though its not 240 related? thanx.
Ok, the goal: convert a 4x100 to 5x114.3 using hub swap
problem: no direct swap like 4x114.3 to 5x114.3 on 240sx
possible solutions: Ok, i came up with several while reading a fat book i have (pictures are also from it). Anyways, as i'm understanding there are 2 possible ways of doing this. First, swap the hub completely with the spindle/knuckle (not sure which is right way to call it) and try to adapt the spindle/knuckle to sit on the stock control arm, strut and steering positions. Second, try to only adapt the hub itself. I'm orienting myself fairly well on the first one, but second is a mystery as im still not sure how the hub sits inside the knuckle. With that said, how different could be the hub to spindle connections?
I spent 3 hours at a junkyard trying to see what i can come up with. I didn't manage to find anything that has the same exact mounting positions. I did however find a hub with the same spline count and outer stub diameter (although off another manufacturer). So theoretically the axle will fit the new hub (didn't try yet). Now the knuckle mounting positions are fairly different. Now i guess the mounting points are not that stressed as opposed to the axle, but i can forsee a pita trying to modify them. With that in mind how hard do u think it will be to just swap the hub? Is it just a matter of inner knuckle diameter so the hub slides in? (pic 1).
I would much rather swap the whole knuckle, as i then would be able to use the donor car brakes which are larger, but 5 lug is the main thing i'm after.
Ideas? suggestions?
And another question. Suppose i manage to find a spindle/knuckle that sits at the same exact mounting points (or requires little modifications to fit), but which uses a larger outer stub diameter and different spline count. Now my friend is saying to make the splines, there is special equipment needed, so adapter rings might not be cheap. However from reading the book, as i'm understanding, the inboard and outboard joints are universal (if im understanding it in the right sense), so theoretically would i be able to swap the outer stub shaft from the hub donor car on the stock project car axle to and thus adapt to the new hub? On this note, does this mean if i find an axle with the same length interconnecting shaft, would i be able to adapt it to the car by switching over the inner and outer stub shafts?
Anyone can help me out? Sorry for low quolity pics, but use them for reference if u can :) Thanx.
