i was just at a junkyard and there were three s12's with ca18eT's and i was wondering if anything can be used on 240's. judgin by the number of them in the yard speaks on their quality, but i want to know if any of the turbo parts or anything else can be used..

nope. turbo too small, engine totally different.

Only good thing on these is if you have a 240z or something, you can use the R180 differential with the 4.11 gears. Otherwise these cars are pretty worthless.

you mean r200 diff. with 4.11 gears.......take a motor out of one, buy you an old 510, rebuild motor and install it...would probably be a cool quick lil car

Ah yes, the non-turbo s12s are the ones that came with the 4.11 R180. My Zcar knowledge is really draining fast since I haven't had a z for 1.5 years now. :duh:

I just found one for sale close to me for a great deal. HMMMMMMM.....

1.5 years is far too long to go Z-less. Gotta love the S30!

hmm...what kind of power does the SOHC CA make? (Or can it make?) I thought it was an iron block+small displacement+only one cam doesn't sound like the smartest of swaps

well you can swap the ca18det head onto it, but if you have that laying around, you might as well just swap the whole ca18det

Yes you can put a ca18et into a s13 240sx, I have one in my car right now. I didnt do the swap but the guy i bought it from did. It is surprisingly a fast little motor. You have to do a little fabbing to install the engine but it can be done. I would suggest using a ca18det tranny as it doesnt have the external shift linkage. I just got a ca18det tranny for mine, I swapped the t2 turbo for a t28 ballbearing ceramic skylien turbo and custom fabbed all the intercooler piping and plan to run a spearco fmic. The ca18et is only a sohc older version of the ca18det but still a great engine. I am the only one with this swap done also so it makes my car more unique unlike all the sr's. :rawk:

na is a 2.0, i ve heard at low boost, i think all s12's are low, but the 1.8 stuff on a 2.0 works pretty good

Is it still a CA? I saw it looked kinda different from the 1.8 on the outside....not like its the same w/o a turbo

Sounds like a bad ass swap, sound LIGHT! I wonder how much that motor costs..

Probably get the motor for cheap considering its a big POS.

I am sure you could pick up a old ca18et engine in a junk yard for not that much. I guess my engine went in the 240 pretty easy and the guy wired the ca18et harness into the stock ka24e harness and it uses the ka computer which is better as it has a little better specs such as more air than the s12 ecu. I really like this engine, even with the stock turbo and no intercooler or bov this car pulls hard. This motor is a great motor, I have a ca18det in my pulsar and there isnt much difference between the two, with the ca18det tranny this engine compares to the ca18det. This motor after my mods will be putting out more hp than the ca18det engine.

A guy named Sean from Tampa is building a high compression turbo motor from a CA18DE block (etc) with the external parts of a CA18DET. It's a pretty sweet project. He's always in the CA forums on NICO and I think he might be a moderator these days.

The bottom end of the ca18et is the same as the det bottom and for the top end I know they make an aftermarket "euro cam" that is supposed to be good and you can use quite a few of the ca20de parts also. If you go on www.club-s12.org there are a bunch of s12 guys that know alot about the different engine mods that can be done.

I always thought they were two different blocks. Are you sure they are the same? My junkyard has 2 of the 1.8T's just sitting there, the turbo's have been pulled though. I think they would be less than 250 apiece. It's a illegal swap but at least its a US legal engine. you know the whole same year or newer thing.

I'm just looking for a true 250 horses. Ka with hacked in turbo would still be more logical though. Plus Torque difference an all. I think at best it would just be a original swap, unique without much more benefit. The 180sx hatch side windows could be justified then:)
