View Full Version : How to wire fuel pump?

I recently bought an S13 project car. It has an SR20 in it. The battery has been relocated to the trunk (pretty shitty job, might I add). I'm still learning through this whole build and definitely need some help.

Anyway, here's the fuel pump wiring:

For some reason, the four wires on the left are all cut. (Where the heck do they go to?)

The red wire you see goes to the positive on the battery, and the black one isn't connected to anything:

If the black wire is touching the negative on the battery, there's a constant buzzing from the fuel pump. In order to start and run the car, the black wire needs to be touching the negative. If it's removed, the car dies.

Now I have no idea how to hook this thing up like it should be. I'd like to put a toggle switch or two (http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performance+Products/555/11023/10002/-1) in the dash for ignition and such. How do I wire the fuel pump to be on when needed and off when it's not, so it isn't constantly pumping/buzzing?

Also, there's a hissing sound by the engine, almost like there's a hose or something blowing air out. This is only when the fuel pump is connected to the battery and buzzing. What could that be?

Use the stock wiring and buy a used assembly and replace that one just keep your pump. Hissing with the car off sounds like a fuel leak. If it does it when its running could be a vaccum leak.
Edit* You may be hearing the fuel pressure regulator returning fuel to the tank

All those wires should combined in a connector. power (positive and negative) and the rest are for the fuel gauge sensor. I think you need a new fuel pump assembly (minus the pump).

youre just gonna want to replace that whole portion of the harness and definitely look for a used fuel pump hanger assembly to replace all those cut wires. if you arent good with wiring take it to someone. you cant just run your pump + & - straight to a battery or whatever is going on in your pics
