hey guys i've done tons of research on this and i haven't been able to find anything. Whats going on is i have a 1997 S14 i just took the engine out and replaced almost all of the gaskets on it. I put the engine back in and now it wont hold idle, i did some troubleshooting found out if i unplug the MAF it will idle fine so i got a new MAF. I just put the new maf on and the same issue is still occuring it wont hold idle with the maf plugged in. PLEASE HELP i have got to get the car running tonight.

Vacuum leak after the MAF is a possibility.

You think like possibly in the manifold itself

No and a new development when I leave the iacv disconnected from the intake tube it stays rubbing without a steady idle

Have you tried cleaning out the IACV? Could be all carbon'd up causing idle to be off.

Sounds like you definitely have a vacuum leak somewhere. Spray brake cleaner/maf cleaner with the engine running where you replaced the gaskets or suspect a leak. If idle goes up there's your leak. Good luck!

I'd be looking for Vacuum leaks, did you have the intake off? Everything plugged back in? Intake gaskets themselves seated correctly?

Edit: Got beaten to it lol.

I'd be looking for Vacuum leaks yet, did you have the intake off? Everything plugged back in? Intake gaskets themselves seated correctly?

I had a huge leak at the intake manifold because the intake gasket wasn't seated properly. I would definitely check there first, let us know how it goes.

Well tested it with the maf cleaner as soon as I sprayed it the idle was affected and it started smoking so dismantling tonight and I am also going to take out the plastic riser that is between the manifold and the head to get a better seal

Just in case anybody was wondering turned out the intake gasket didn't seal correctly and well was sucking in air and somehow my 3 month old spark plugs had fouled out. I'll tell you what the frustration almost got to me to the point I almost sold the car but now that my baby is running the love was rekindled haha

I know the feeling...feels even better when you don't shell out extra cash to have a mechanic fix it. Glad you got her running right again!

another question anybody know if a 10 bolt intake manifold will fit on a 11 bolt head
