Ok heres the situation, I have a bone stock 92 KA24DE s13 hatch, I am lost as to what I should do first. My budget is about 5,705 to be exact, and I dont have to worry about labor stuff because I have access to a three bay garage. I have determined that my shocks are indeed "blown" and probably spent due to the wheel hop I have been getting. The car is drivable and I do drive it all the time ,but the clutch is about to go cause its got 172,000 miles on it and its original. It'll last for another 4 months before its done, I think. I am debating if I should get the engine first and adress the shocks later. Or vica-versa. What were the first mods you guys got on your cars? I know it'll be impossible for me to do Tein HE coil overs and the SR engine on the budget I have. Please give me recommendations or opinions on what should be done first cause I really need them right now.

It all depends on what you want to do I guess. Are you looking for a nice all-around street car or do you want to build it for a specific purpose like auto-x or drag?

sell your car and use the total money (est. $8000)to put a down payment on a WRX, then you won't have to worry about...
clutch ($300)
struts/springs($800)
fuel filter($40)
spark plugs($20)
cap and rotor($30)
spark plug wires($50)
bushings($100)
fuel pump($100)
tranny oil($20)
engine oil($20)
diff oil($15)
alignment($80)
water pump($40)
thermostat($30)
belts($60)
you get the idea

Night Walker I cant afford a Down Payment on a WRX, and secondly I don't want a WRX. I enjoy the beauty of 2 wheel drive thankyou very much. Third, I know a friend who just bought a 02 and is paying out the ass on it. Fourth, It'll put a smile on my face when I beat WRX's in my car. But to answer Ryans question I am building a drift/track car that can be driven on the street just as easily and I don't care about creature comforts like suspension being too hard.

I wish i had almost 6 grand laying around...Do the motor swap then you dont have to worry about the engine giving out on you. then buy some "cheapie" shocks to hold you till you save more money for some HE's
How much did you pay for your 240?

with almost 6k you can do coilovers HE's and a stock SR swap. i got my HE's for 1150, so with the extra 4500 you should be able to get the engine/tranny/etc

wtf are you talking about
do the motorswap first
MORONIC
fix your current engine to tip top
then get your car fixed back to proper safe working condition
THEN upgrade here adn there
you can easily get someone's used stock suspension if needs be, lots of folks upgrade and want to get rid of the stock stuff. good luck
motorswap first...HA!

Pff, stop being a baby, and do the right thing. Why put an motor in a car that is totaly stock suspention and braking wise. Why not just get a Ford Festiva and put a 350 in it, with stock suspention, it will be crazy fast.. but it wouldent be able to handle, but that seems to be what you want. Stop being the norm and getting a SR in a totaly stock car.. he is picking on you cuz your being a fool about this. Suck it up

I guess I'll try to find the engine from a diffrent place I was looking at Heavy throttle cause they are on the east coast and about 4 hours away, and they seem to know what they are talking about, I was going to get a engine package that they have for 4800 that includes just about everything.

ok here we go,
full front clip s13 black top $3000
install parts misc. etc(hoses, fluilds etc) $150
clutch kit $320
downpipe/ custom 3inch echaust $150+say300
JIC Magic FLT-A2 $1600
oh yea the bushings kit ST, around $90
its a bitch to replace all of them, lots of work.
this for almost stock setup engine wise, id say you can go for Tein HE,
will be cheaper,
this just of top of my head, so :smash:
after all around 6k is not enough, if you do the engine, you gotta do it right, just like everything else. you can start with suspension and keep saving.
$5000 should be net reserve for the engine.

i say ca18det, hella cheaper
then tein coilovers, and all the other metal pieces of suspension maybe even a rolcage
nice wheels low offset then just engine money

Not bad advice, depending on who you ask. I would rather put the Sr20 in a car if I knew the KA was about to crap out(if its your daily driver)so you could have a car to drive(STOCK SR) in which i wouldnt race becuase its stock. But thats just a cetrain situation.

Well Eric, here's my take..since you want a drift car, spend on suspension. I've got a brand new airfilter in my garage with your name all over it if you want it. I had a fair amount of money to spend on my hicas car and it's going to own. I have a good amount of suspension and engine mods, forgot to do the interior, so im stuck with s13 seats. A good friend of mine and one of the better drifters i know has a setup that's right up your alley..check it.
Engine:
KA24DE
Nissan air filter
Nissan S13 fuel filter
NGK spark plugs
Flex A Lite Trimline Electric Fans
Permacool adjustable electric fan controller
Drivetrain:
Nissan clutch master cylinder
Nissan clutch slave cylinder
B&M short shifter
Exedy stock clutch
ATS 2 way LSD
New Nissan differential bearings and seals
Suspension:
Tein HA for S13
Nismo power brace
Whiteline Bushings
Tein tierods and ends
Brakes:
Stock
I think you should get something like this, get HE's instead of HA's though. He has about a thousand sets of rims and tires which is always good. The stock SE rims (the seven spoke ones) are as good as money around here. They usually go for 100-150 + shipping. Get a hand ful of those, put some azenis on one set and daily drive tires on the other set, good to go. Get some better pads and rotors too. If you want drift, going fast isnt the key. Just remember, my car owns you. Lol. If you want my final setup, let me know and ill post it.
