What's the largest size tire i could fit on my 17x9.5 inch wheels for an s14 w/ and without pulling the fenders, and I'd rather not go below a 40 height. Also what about the front 8.5 incher?

thanks in advance

295 on 9.5
275 on 8.5

won't look nice though, and may not fit on the 240

i have a S14a and i'm running on 18X8.5 with 30 offset in front and 18X9.5 with 40 offset in the back... 225/40/18 and 275/35/18.. i didn't roll my fender, and it barely rubs, the only time they rub is during some hard cornering about 30miles on a sharp turn... hope this helps...

How about the biggest width I can cram on a 91 fastback without worrying about tire rub/scrape? Looking at 235/40/17s for the front, just curious what the widest tire that won't scrape under spirited driving/drifting is. Also, ideal backspacing would be nice to know, or maybe some rim suggestions for a 17.

Why do want the widest possible rear tire if you plan to drift? The wider the rear tire in proportion to the front, the more understeer you will have, and massive understeer isn't very conducive to drifting.

If you're going with 235/40s in the front, just go with 255/40s in the rear. That should be plenty wide, but not too wide. You'll probably want to roll your fenders though... if you don't want to roll you could go with 225/45 in the front and 245/40 in the rear.
You can see what 235s and 255s look like here (http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?p=432975#post432975).

I'm running 215/45 and 235/40 on mine. :coold:

so 225s in front, 235s if I roll the fender to clear them, and 255s in back are the widest?

I'd want these more for street use than anything. I've got a spare set of 195s for drift use that I bolt onto the back when I need to. Or I could go with the 235s all around I guess for an even balance.

Haven't quite decided for sure yet, just wondering what tire sizes have given people good/bad experiences, and what the maximum the car will accept is.

It also depends on your power. if your turbo then 245's & 255's would be good. maby even wider if you want. Remember, tire "stickyness" is 10% width, and 90% compound. so keep that in mind if this is for track use, drift, or just street use. but if you go wider than 255 in the rear expect to see some heavy understeer.... your worst enemy....

Also, if you have a stock clutch and diff, its gonna feel like shit to try and push big wheels and wide sticky tires. it will basically just burn up your clutch and your diff will be crappy. before you up your tire size too drastically, (and i dont know what you have so this may not apply) i highly suggest huge power gain, good suspension gain, and nice drivetrain upgrades.

Well at this point it's looking like I'm going to go with 235s all around of a fairly stiff compound, as this will mostly be my street tires that I don't want to burn up. I may go softer in the front for a bit more grip, but the rear isn't going to matter too much. Like I said, I've already got some old 195s on steel rims that are meant for drifting/demolishing, both in 4 lug AND 5 lug. (makes a nice coffee table on the balcony, too!)

I'm just going to be going for the 5 lug conversion soon, as the 205/60/15s just don't cut it for regular use, and I figured I may as well go up to 17s at the same time. I like drifting and all, just not off the track. :) If it's on-street driving, it's gotta be grip for me.
