I just want to make sure that this is the timing chain guides that have gone bad.

it doesn't sound like knock, i hope it isn't. it sounds really bad. even when i rev it, seems to get even worse. it's my DD and i need to get to and from work. worst case, what can happen?

I was gonna speculate, but I won't. Just pull the valve cover and have a look, or take photos and post.

Why do you want to continue to drive it, when it sounds like that?

I really don't think that is a "timing chain tick". I would pull the valve cover and see whats going on. It sounds worse then a chain tick.

Also, what motor is it?

that sounds terrible...it doesn't sound like timing chain tick at all, i had timing chain tick and took the top guide out, definitely not timing chain tick...

maybe one of the guides is broken off and touching the chain?

that's what it sounds like...

kinda like this

pop that valve cover off right now and check before you keep driving it. one of my ka's broke the chain guide and sent metal inside of the engine engine. resulting in major machine shop work and a crank that coulndt be saved

i will later in the morning.

i plan on swapping my motor soon so i dont think i will fix this. it just has to get me to and from work for maybe a couple of days.

It's been a long time (6ish years), but I seem to recall my engine making that same noise when the top guide broke off and was laying on the timing chain.
It only takes a couple of hours to pull the valve cover, dizzy (make sure to pull the cap and mark the rotor position so you don't have trouble reinstalling it properly), and upper front cover, remove the upper guides, make sure the upper tensioner still works properly (they get gummed up) and seal it back up. At least pull the valve cover and see if the uppermost guide is still there.

I should also note that when my AIV tube got loose from the exhaust manifold, it made a similar noise to what you have. I doubt that's it in your case, but it's something to look at before you pull everything apart.

my KA sounded like this when i first got it , took the front timming chain cover off along with the valve, replaced all of the worn down guides and tentsioners removed the top guide new chains and every things all NISSAN OEM. once it was completed it was mos def waaaayyyyy more silent. still some tick but i had to put oil in it ....burned alot of oil at the time.
as it is today fixed the oil leak def sounds alot more healthy
