Alright, well I'm trying to figure out whether i made a bad decision or not. I sold my silver 1998 bmw M3 w/ over 11k in mods to build up an s14. The main reason was basically I wanted to go alot faster, and I didnt have 5k to spend on a turbo kit for the ///M. I'm listing a mod list from the M3, and one for my s14 thats being built. What do you guys think, was i stupid for selling my M3? I know theres no pictures, but the M3 was clean. The s14 is real clean on the inside, but I'd like to paint the outside.
M3 Mods
Engine: AA ecis cold air intake w/ heat shield, UUC Motorwerkes system U exhaust, no cats, Midnight Autowerkes O2 simulator (for not check engine light),Unorthodox Racing underdrive pullies, AA stage 1 short shifter, Centerforce stage 2 dual friction clutch,AA strut tower bar, AA polished oil cap
Interior: AA polished shift knob and ebrake handle, black Sparco Torino racing seats w/ 5 point harness
Exterior: DTM Autohaus carbon fiber hood, blacked out grill, clear corners and side markers, pre-splitters, Koni yellow shocks in the rear, E36 convertible shock mounts,Clifford arrow 2 alarm system, Axxis Ultimate pads, Brembo front rotors and Zimmerman rear rotors
S14 mods (still being built, should be done in a week or two)
Engine:blacktop sr, koyo radiator, dual flexalite fans,ACT 4 puck clutch,fidanza flywheel,greddyFMIC,Blitz 555cc injectors,Trust dp,Apex'i N1 exhaus,Apex'i boost gauge,Greddy boost controller, Trust polished O2 extension, Power Enterprise 1420 turbo kit,Walbro,Tein basic damper, Greddy intake manifold,
Interior: Sparco torinos
Exterior: 17x8.5 and 17x9.5 Hyperblack Dt-05r's
This is everything thats going on the 14 as of now, I've got the disease so I'll be spending more $$ as time goes by. So what do you all think, am I a dumbass for making the switch?

well, I dunno. I love the M3, I think I wouldn't have sold it if I had one. But, what's done is done, don't go beating yourself up. Start building the S14!!

I like my S14 and all, but I would ditch it for an M3. May be you'll like the S14 more once you're done with all your mods, good luck with the project.

thats not even a mode dude. but i would have sticked with m3. different cars. m3 is social status for common people as well (if thats all that important). should have kept m3 and dump 8k in engine and turbo. my friend is a bmw mechanic; now, his m3 made well over 580rwhp. but choice is yours..
AA polished oil cap
thats not even a mod, dude. :tweak:
I think you shouldnt have sold the M3 unless you got a good amount of money back for it. Care to share how much you sold it for?

You made the WRONG choice by selling the M3. I geuss your just too good of a driver for it, since its too slow. One of the best inline 6 engines ever made, but thats okay!

I would have kept the M3 for a daily driver, but that's your decision go with it.

wow.
I so would NOT have sold the M3.
Sweet Jesus! WHY?!
i was thinking about buying a 97 M3, but i thought i was better off sticking to my 240, but that's cause i already dumped hella money into it. If i started with an M3 i would have stuck with it. If i started over and chose which car i would get, it would be an ae86.

Riiiiiigggghhhhtttt. Anyway you should know you made the wrong decision considering this is a 240 fourm and we are all heavily biased and most of us are saying you should have kept the M. Oh well!

My family is a BMW family and we have an E36 M3 parked out back. I would trade my pops for that car any day of the week. You definitely made the wrong decision. Sell the 240 and keep working on the M. Seriously. Unless you're going to be drifting, having a cheaper car is nice cuz then you just don't give a fuck about it when you scrape rails or other cars doing JDM tyte Marionette style tandem drifting.

BAH! M3 whatever, a 240 will kick it's ass. It's an overweight pig anyways. Go spend some serious money on suspension for the 240, and go kick some M ass at the auto-X. (and just a bit of power)

well just like i said, m3 is a true sports car, a bmw instant classic. evething stock on that car kicks ass already. with enough time and money it would be the absolute shiznet. its not only a car, its a status. you fuckin represent! not trying to sound gheto, but its true. its way up in class than 240, no matter how much i love my car. but its my .03 1/2 cents

I'm not really into status.

Hahahhahahaha. You're a fucking idiot.
I sold my 00 Celica GTS for a 96 240sx se....ppl thought i was crazy..and they all told me to keep my GTS but yeah.....main reason i sold it was cuz of the lack of after market parts and they also cost a lot of $$$....and it was FWD.....but its all up to you and how you look at things...im pretty sure your not a dumb guy and prolly know what your doin...enjoy your s14 and turn that thing to a monster man....goodluck

actually, we all are. I just not afraid to say so. :fawk:

Good for you, wittyname. You sold your staggered-rim understeer monster! (I know because I drive one at least once a week. Ok, so I exaggerate about the understeer just a bit... and I've all but eliminated it by messing with tire pressure, but I still say it's an understeer monster.) The power is intoxicating, though... so smooth; no matter, because soon you will have revs the S52 can only dream of.
Never look back. As one who is going down the approximate route, (e30 to S13) let's just hope we don't tire of the Nissans. Death to insane parts prices and looking like a status-quo-loving, Gucci-wearing YUP. Rise up against society and... drift, I suppose.
You would be my hero, but you live in Florida.
This thread makes me very sad...

e36 m3's are amazing cars. i agree they are very expensive to modify, but you dont need much mods to have lots of fun with them. some grippy tires and your set. a few of my friends have e46 m3's, and after riding with my friend just once, i was sold.

Its okay, let the retards sell their nice cars for cheap and then they can buy OUR amzing S13/s14's for a lot of money. Then when they put the car into the wall or off a cliff thinking that any JDM Rwd car is an amazing oversteer machine, we will drive away with THEIR refined German cars they sold to us for pennies! HAHAHAHAHA!!
I'm done with this thread. Flame me and the M3 (aka the understeering pig), its exactly what I want you to do. :bigok:

you got some good points, one of them being about the yuppie stereotype that comes w/ owing a bmw.....and just so all you guys know.... im not some kid who's building a 240 because its "cool" or i wanna "drift" if i wanted to or cared about drifting i would have done it in the m

the only difference between an m3 and an s14 is the type of girls your gonna get. if you get an m3, youll get girls who has money on there mind, if you get a highly modded s14, youll get asians girls with money on there mind

boo you guys. imo, bmw's are too much of a status car. sure it's "the ultimate driving machine," but only when compared to Mercedes. A true driver's car is one that the driver builds to his own specs. M3's are fast and responsive, but they still have to make compromises. Cheaper parts for 240s's means that for x money, the s14 will rock the M3's shit. what's more, but again in my opinion, modded s14's (aka kouki Ings, Friends, vertex, or zenki front w/lip and kouki rear) look cooler than modded m3's, E36 or other. German cars in general just seem to stale for my taste. The s14 has a friendlier, more playful appeal while M3's make me think of yuppies named Hans. Plus, bigass turbos are only a few phone calls away.
enjoy your s14, dude. (and since you seem to be in the $$, GET BETTER COILOVERS!)

ya, the s14 is defintely wayyy sexier than the boxy m3....there wasnt a front bumper on the market that i wanted to put on that thing......and ya maybe i should have gotten better coils...but i really dont care about 230982093 ways to adjust...but im sure theres also more to them than just adjustablity
