If you had 800 dollars and my car how would you spend it? I am selling my other car and i will have 800 to spend on the 240. Should i save it and put it towards an sr swap? or should i buy shocks to go with the springs im going to buy? Im could spend 800 on this car in the blink of an eye but i want to make sure i do it the right way

Sell the front lip, whore yourself out, and buy some cheap (price-wise) coilovers. Or look for a good deal on some used ones. I got a set of barely used Tein HEs for 800, you probably could too if you don't mind waiting for a good deal.

Or don't wait and get some AGXs, springs, and subframe collars.

I am already ordering springs with other money i have now, so i wont need those. So i was goign to buy a set of KYB AGX shocks and see if i have enough after those for a decent exhaust or spend it all or suspension parts. Its not really that big of a deal right now since im only 15 but i want to start working on the car and learn as much as i can about it so when stuff break i can fix the shit my self, ya know

nismo 1.5 is a good choice as pruto says..but prices differ...honestly...you really dont need an sr20det cuz everyone wants one...especially because you're 15...you dont need that much power until you get really acomforted with your car already...stay with the KA24DE....slap on a T25 or somethin...the torque is a good the horsepower is alright...i would rather work on my suspension or ...get strut bars and such

Right on!!! I am 17, got the 240 before I had my driver's liscence, but.... I worked for years for the money, I have paid everything, including insurance, and my parents have not done a thing monetarily. I agrre with the above post that if you didn't pay for it, it's not truely yours, but good job on getting the car you want under your onw "steam."

Hey, I got my driver's license at 14, so a 15 year-old with a car isn't out of the question. Granted, I was driving a 1987 YUGO then, but I still had my license.

Anyway, do this:
KYB AGX shocks/struts - $400
300zx LSD - $200
axels and misc parts to make it fit - $200

done all your basics first? change rotor and cap, change your hoses, flush and change your fluids, patch up any rust or paint chips, sand and seal underbody rust, etc etc. check ur bushings, changed your oil, spark plugs, plug wires, check for leaky injectors, check your oil seals, lube your all your latches. etc etc etc.

after that - well, i dunno how much you drive... but for me it would go in this order. tires if u have worn tires, brake rotors/pads if they're old, then springs/shocks, then chassis stiffening or other suspension pieces (control arms, sway bars blah blah). however if u have the car just sitting around u have the luxury of waiting on better stuff. i have to drive my pos everyday though. after all that is done i would probably save for a new paint job.

I dont drive the car that much, and when i do it is just around the block and what not. But i just order tein springs so im gonna need shocks, im going to go with the KYB AGX shocks, I have heard good things about them. they still dont compare to coilovers but im not going to use the car on the track much if at all so i dont see why i should spend the money on a part that i despretly dont need. I want to get a lsd but im going to wait till i learn the car with the open diff. Im just looking for the way to do the car right the first time so i dont have to waste money in the process of doing the wrong things to the car, instead we get assholes like brokenben. anyways thanks for the support and help. And why the 300zx diff over an s13 diff? Well, I guess for an s13, its easier to get an s13 vLSD. I'm just used to looking for s14 parts, I guess, cause I can never seem to find a vLSD. So, I found a good condition 300z vLSD. Its all good. :D

800 bucks? tough call. its enough money to do some things ,but not quite enough to really do some cool stuff. Like these guys said, I would make sure all the maintainance is done first. maybe get some brembo blank rotors, nice pads, new fluid. hows your suspension? shocks blown? maybe get some AGX's.

you know I used to be the same way. until I got to thinking. and I kind of posed this question to myself. if my parents offered to buy me a fully built 800hp sr20 and swap it into my car would I take it? hell yeah I would. so I give the same basic question to you. if your parents offered you a sick ass motor for your car, be it an rb, ka-t, sr, ca, whatever and it was fully done. or offered bodywork for your car. or anything. would you take it? I bet you would. no response needed. just an enlightenment post.

about the respect. yes respect is earned. but if somebody hasn't earned respect then you don't just treat them like shit. IMO some respect should always be there and you treat people with respect unless they've lost it. then treat them like shit.

and now to stop preaching and get on topic. I'd spend the money on some BPU. intake, header, exhaust, electric fan, short shifter, take your choice. bpu for the money wield the greatest gains.

lol i m 21, my frist car grand am(16), parents got it for me, crashed it, second grand am(17.5) insurence money+my money, beat the hell outta it, but it deserved it, 240(20), i m paying it off, and keep alot better care of it and am taking time to fix every thing....i work all summer to buy parts though, i think last year i had 6 or 7 days off from end of school in may to start of school end of august, but i got alot of parts into it and fixxed alot of shit..but i dunno if i can hack another summer of at least 2 12 hour days a week and then 8 hours a day for at least 5 days, but most of time i worked weeknds for the over time ............i need a life this summer i think though, i wish i had my car when i was 16 cause then i d be alittle further or be on my 2nd or 3rd one and have alot of spare parts. lol

Im not really too concerned on if you believe i got the car for $400, you can beleive what you want, and the "other" car i got for $300, it was a wrecked 240 that i used for interior parts, front lip, fender, dash, and other random parts. Then i traded it to a guy a new for a turbo talon with the turbo seized, Spent about $400 on the talon and got it running fine, and now im selling it, So you can believe what ever you want to. And who said i dont walk to work, infact i do, I work at my fathers hardware buisness. But im not going to lose sleep due to the fact that you dont beleive me on what i say and you think my car "sucks". The reason i posted asking what people would do to my car is because i am 15 and im not as educated as most of the people here, and i dont want to waste money in the process of modifying my car, i want everything done right the first time. If you think this thread was worthless then i have an idea for you...dont click on it.

Im 16, goin on 17 in a few months. I've learned from my brother that the first mod going on my S14 is going to be an LSD. KAAZ 2-way clutch type LSD, from my brothers S14. He went to japan on deployment and left me a bunch of goodies. Of course ima pay him back. (i have to pay him before the part goes on) but hey, im gettn great deals. KAAZ LSD w/ output shafts for $600,
APEX'i N1 single exhaust + High Flow CAT. + Hotshot Headers for $350, 2 pairs of diff. rims + rear 5-lug conversion for $100, 4 extra tires for free, B&M short shifter + Off-brand steering wheel for free. God im lucky. The reason im getting all this stuff is cuz i helped him put most of them on, plus... hes my brother ;)

some people need to listen to this. 15 year old smarter than many of you. its not like hes got a brand new car. and it seems to me like he put some work into it. why do you care how/what hes doing? hes not being stupid about it. tell him to research all you want, most of you will still agree that 1st hand experience is best. so hes doing the best he can and asking the experienced, and even the less experienced, what he should do. like being able to start over and do it again, what would you do??
