I think people would vote rb25det neo faster than sr20det. I think you also have to think about the cash spending for this 600hp project.

I dont know about VET but NEO parts are harder to come buy. Apexi did just start making PFC's again, if you were going to a different brand than its not an issue.

I love the NEO until I need something else for it.

Do rb25 have valvetrain problems as well

If your looking for that much power, you might wanna go with a s1 or s2 rb25 because either way you would have to build the motor and a neo is a bit harder to get parts for. You would get 600 out of a rb25 easier then a sr20

Depends how much money you're willing to spend initially and then every time something breaks...because shit is gonna break. It's a lot easier to find SR parts and a lot cheaper.

^^^This, its not unheard of for RB25s to make 600hp on stock bottom end still. I'd get an S1/S2, go solid lifters, ARP studs, big procams, topmount HX35 turbo, 740 or 850cc injectors, should be enough to get you to 600hp.

Best part is, you already have an RB25 tranny. Shit will handle 600hp. If you go SR, you'd have to upgrade to an RB25 or VG tranny to handle the power.

Does the rb have to reshimmed if you do solid lifters frequently the sr would have solid lifters

No offense Drivin, but I think you are completely clueless. You need to do some research and figure out what is best for you, not what other people think is best for you.

Never said it was unheard of. Im saying 600hp on stock internal rb25 is pushing it and don't expect it to last very long like that

Just because an engine makes such HP does not mean it won't last long. If the EGTs are in check all the time and not going over the limit set by the tuner (1600 Fahrenheit is usually the limit for a run, around 1220 aluminum will start to deform and melt after extended period of time, but it varies due to head casting) So as long as the temps do not get high every time the engine is run, no reason why it should not last. EGT gauge is more important that AFR when pushing an engine, EGT is mounted before AFR for a reason... Pushing limits of stock engines and seeing what fails and documenting it is what motorsports is all about. You can't go fast around a corner by being a pussy...

Eh, all depends on the tune. Ringland's the weakest link of the bottom end. As long as you dont start pinging/knocking, itll handle 600hp no problem. I personally knew guys in Japan running HX35s on stock RB bottom end for years. Only thing 1 of them was breaking on a regular basis was his damn axles.

RB is easier and cheaper to get 600hp but deff want to think about piston upgrade, piston ring lands will crack eventually, even sooner with crap tune, i pushed 600hp on my stock 25 for awhile, stock bolts and HG, 27psi no prob but piston did crack after and blowby

rb25's a bigger engine, your car will feel different. since its bigger and has 2 more cylinders, there's more surface area to spread out that 600 whp so it will be more reliable.

all it comes down to is money and what you prefer... there's rarely ever an absolute "better" when it comes to anything.

The NEO rb25 series is quite capable of going 50k miles or more at 550~rwhp. The older RB25's I have seen the oil pumps fail but the NEO engines seem to do much better at that power level.
