240 duration intake / 248 duration exhaust
stock cams are 232/232
having the higher duration allows more flow and thus more hp, people that have a 91 already try to buy another set do they can use 2 exhaust side cams 248/248 really nice upgrade and about 8 hp gain if ur running 232/232

if u have intake, exhaust, pulleys ect you will see greater gains

All 91 to early 93 cams are the same.
After the beginning of 93 Nissan started messing with them until they finally ended up as weak S14 cams.
One thing that nobody has mentioned yet is that cams shifts your powerband, so that 8hp gain in the 5000+ rpm range might sacrifice some of your lower-end power, so just keep that in mind.

cams go for about 50 bucks+ shippign, if you want 2 exhaust side cams u probably have to buy 2 sets. Thats interesting salty.. someone compared early model dohc cams and said 91's were different... pdm racing even stated taht 91 cams have higher duration, and they work with a company that custom grinds cams so they knwo their stuff.. also plenty of other sites that sell hi perf cams for the ka also state that 91 cams are different, nismo-parts.com also sells "nismo" cams but there really just 2 exhaust side cams...

running that 2nd exhaust cam in your s14 intake side is NOT BOLT ON. You will need to do custom work to get it to firt, drilling holes or some shit, i dont ahve details because i didn't figure it out, but i know it doesn't lineup without work.

Per the 91, 92, an 93 FSM's they all have 240/248 cams.

So I have a 93 hatch
1:Does it have these 240/248 cams?
2:If so I just need an exhaust cam to run on the intake , which I could get from a 91-93 right?
and 3: will it be a bolt on to install these exhaust cam on my intake side?
Thanx a lot

i could've sworn that someone did measure the cams and one yr in particular is different in the s13 dohc even though the fsm states that they are all the same... i thought it was the 91's, early 92's...

1: SOME '93 models got the hot cams, others didn't. I do not know what production date they switched, nor do I know how to check (i only got a '97)
2:if you want an exhaust cam to run on the intake side, get it from a '91-'92 to be safe
3: NO IT WILL NOT BOLT ON! If you had the valve cover off and the cams right there, you'd see how the holes and pins don't line up. You will need to have them drilled, I do not know details how to make them fit, and those that have done it have not been the most forthcoming about it. SEARCH, read about it more.
For clarification: '91, '92, early '93 had cams with intake = 240, exhaust = 24
I'm not sure about late '93's and '94,s but the S14 ECU is more aggresive, and thus takes better advantage of the hotter cams found in s13s.
So if you put a 240 intake cam and a 248 exhaust cam in an S14, you will definitely get an upgrade, how much i do not know for sure, but in my auto, i feel a bigger kick past 3000rpm or so. With a 5spd and more bolt ons, (puilleys, exhaust, headers), you'd really feel a difference.
If you want the best cams you can get OEM-wise, you take two exhaust cams from a '91-92 s13 and stick it in an s14, but one exhaust cam must be modified to fit onto the s14 intake side
The swap took me 5 hours with another guy's help using instructions from jimwolftechnology.com (for installing their cams, but its very similar, with pix). I had never done engine work before, but my friend had. If u know exactly what you were doing and had the proper tools, you could probably cut that in half. We also did part of the job in the evning when lighting was less than optimal, so start in the morning (duh..)

You can check easily on the '93...if it has the secondary butterflies, it has the 'better' cams. No butterflies, like the '94 and '95-98 KA24DE, and you have 232/232.

honestly, just buy something else to give you more HP, like save for a TURBO!!!
little crap like that doesnt really do that much, and you most likely wont notice much of a gain, excapt for on the dyno...
if youre looking for 8 more HP, go buy a K&N filter or something, but honestly save your money for something else

Turbo kit = $2k custom, $3.5k kitted
cams = $50...or cheaper
Plus, cams will help you when you get a turbo...it doesn't hurt

91 cams are dirt cheap... i don't regret doing the swap one bit.
I don't notice much of a difference, but I guess it can't hurt. Everything else on my KA is stock.

wouldnt using a more free flowing exhuast and intake.. meaning you'd notice an overall difference and hp gains when you have.. like.. h/i/e/cams

You have to do both exhaust and intake to really notice a difference, allowing the engine to breath better but still have crappy exhaust will do nothing really. So do both and then the effects of the cams will be completly revealed.

the "butterflies" are actually Swirl Control Valves. They are like little throttle plates that reside in the intake runners. The are used during warm up (I think) to help facilitate a more complete combustion of the A/F mixture. I believe they are an emmisions thing.

they are a torque thing i think, to keep the vacuum high. thats what i was told, u gain a rumored 6 hp from removeing them, and alittle low end loss, what i noticed, at start my friends car sound differnt then mine, then u can hear when they go to fully open, i removed mine and im compareing his to mine. mine just get louder and doesnt ahve that change over tone, if u stop and listen u ll hear it. removeing them celans up alot of crappy little hoses, and my hose to it was broken any way. i run a s14 upper intake manifold.

yah, guy couple posts up said the swirl control or butterflies will point to what cams u have, well i was trying to explain what they are, they are located in the upper intake. s14 intake nice, s13 intake with er butterflies removed then plugged, nice

How is duration of a cam measured?
OptionZero

in degrees?

duration is degrees of rotation of the cam where the valve is open.
