So I know that this build thread isn't as nice as some of the ones out that are out there, This is my first one so be gentle :w00t:. I am doing this to gain a little motivation to get it finished. I hope all of you enjoy my progress.
The goal behind this build was build and fab as much stuff as I could with my own two hands just for the feel good factor. Also I blame my girlfriend, she was the one to initially show me that sliding my car around was a sport, and she's been by my side this whole process. I eventually landed my first 240sx and am determined to keep this car till the dirt. I will never get rid of it even after it's a prune.
Enough with the stories and on to the pics.
Here is when we first initially got it home after a 680 mile round trip.

coils wheels and welded diff and a bone stock KADE. The addiction begins.
At this point I'm still a noob. I look it over on the lift.
Some little things i was learning about proper alignment, "wore through a set of tires" discovered a re welded rear LCA a sign of some abuse :) etc.

My first drift event. I had no clue I just new I had to try it. This is at a local track in the PNW. PARC "pat's acres racing complex" They made me do a run to see if I could handle the car. NOPE! so they didn't let me on the track, but all I needed was the first 5 minutes and I was hooked!

I got a new job at this and it was kind of a life changer. I knew how to MIG weld and loved fabrication as a hobby but knew nothing really about it, I was mostly a computer nerd anyway like an act of god I got the job. I have no idea why hehe. Here's one of my first projects as I was learning to TIG.

I took a ride with this guy to try and get a grasp of what was going on.
He's been an inspiration since. Thanks Jeremy!

After a few months I gave a shot at trying to make a coolant over flow tank.
I wish I would have never used the dorky fluid level gauge. anyways it served it's purpose for now.

not long after this I was mad one day and being cocky and aggravated i put the car into a 7 ft deep ditch :) soft landing into black berry bushes but way far down there hehe. Never again. I had drifted the car for a year and a half and now it was time for a little advancement.

Shortly after the season began to dwindle down and I felt confident that I have learned enough with the stock KA that I could finally upgrade the power plant. I wanted to build something that I would enjoy and learn and grow with. So I had a thing for Toyota's and thought what better than a JZ series.

after getting some funds back into play things started to roll and the brown Santa began to make frequent stops. One thing was for sure I didn't want to beat around the bush with the stock twins so I started on the basic motor build.
I'll save the internal stuff for another season.
she's a dirty girl but I'll clean her up :)
most of these flanges I did myself with some help from the machinist,
I burned these out on our CNC Plasma

small updates.
first I welded my AN fittings to my valve covers for my catch can lines.
there's a little bit of tech here to explain why I did this setup.
Ali SC3 from the Club Lexus forum explained it the best.
If you want the best setup, vent both sides to a can and remove the pcv valve entirely.
If you vent both sides, the pcv is not needed because there will be no chance or pressurizing the crank case. This will allow for the most pressure to escape equally out both sides, which may decrease or prevent blow by entirely.
If you are running good boost on a single turbo with the stock pcv in place, it shuts under boost entirely, which means when you need to evacuate the most you have shut off one side of the crank case entirely, so all the pressure must escape off the passenger side, and when too much pressure builds up, it will take alot of oil along with it.
The pcv only helps you a little bit in vacuum at the expense of constantly oiling the insides of your intake, and hurting evacuation under boost. If you think about it, Oil blow-by is a consequence of too much pressure; and if you eliminate the pressure build up, you may find your catch can hardly gets any oil at all, which means if you open up the valve cover vents and remove the pcv, you have effectively doubled your ability to vent and you may not even need a catch can anymore

order from drift motion came in just some small things.
Heat shielding gasket, AN fuel rail adapter with crush washer, Cam seals, exhaust studs flange nuts, valve cover gaskets and grommets, and a braided line for my oil pressure/temp gauge.
the heat shielding gasket is probably one of the better things you can do for your jz.
also my BoV is ordered and soon I should be fabbing my intercooler and oil cooler, waiting for the cores to show up

Waiting on my transmission situation then I can finally start mocking this turd into the car and get things rollin. Also my lack of a garage and having to drive 20 miles to work on my car is halting my progress. But this will soon be solved :D
parts keep rollin in the door got some injectors more an lines and fittings my intercooler core showed up should be fabbing that shortly. But again not much more to do other than get it in the car for mock up.

Great progress, and you're gonna love the new motor. I kept my stock twins and it's still quite the monster in my coupe, and one of the most reliable, indestructible motors i've had.
I love how modest you are with your TIG skills. not bad for a "computer nerd". haha.
In the pics with you at full lock (with the angle kit) it looks like you have very little contact patch on your inside wheel. if you extend your FLCA's (or get s14 lowers) and possibly even notch the top bolt hole on your coilover bracket, you'll get the full contact patch you want at angle. with your skills, you should be able to do that with a little measuring!

I use a few depends on were i'm at in the shop or what I'm doing
I mostly use miller dynasty 350 it's the shit, and a Lincoln precision TIG 275
sometimes when I'm building handrails on the big layout table i use this old fucked up dynasty machine. And then when I do portable welding use couple different ones depends on the situation both are dynasty machines ones a 110v with a thumb control the other is a bit more umph for jobs that arent in fucked up places

Hey not trying to thread jack your build but I was wondering if you tried those spacers out to see if they work or if its enough of a spacer. I'm not sure im even going to run a front sway bar as my spring rates are 12k swift springs on stance gr+ pro's and my suspension has next to ZERO travel. Anyways I had to make some spacers with a step up because of the way the sway bar mounts are. Haven't test fitted the sway bar on the car with the motor in yet tho.

I already had an rb25 so the weight is pretty close to the same. Drifting on a bank turn my car almost three wheel motions in the front because the springs literally do not compress because of how stiff they are. I'm gonna try it with and without and see if its noticeable even with the little amount of suspension travel I have.
Anyways back on topic. Love your build, glad you're taking your time and able to do things on your own the way you want. I'm sure ill see you down at PARC once you're done!:wavey:

^^^ the question is why dont you have much suspension travel on your pink s13? and start fixing that before being concerned with your sway bar
First off there's a quote button for a reason. And I know exactly why I don't have travel as its my car not yours. I have custom valving, 12k swift springs and a 30.4mm Tanabe sway bar so I think its pretty obvious why there's no travel because a combo of everything is making the front suspension too stiff. Hence why i'm going to remove the thick sway bar, try a stock one, and further more try softer spring rates. Anyways this isn't the thread about how to tell me how to set up my suspension.
Sorry to the OP for leading this thread off topic. Could you post pics of your sway bar clearance from the ground and your pan once you get that far?

The fab work is GREAT! Just think that shroud is going to block alot of air flow for no reason really... Looks good don't get me wrong. These motor's create a shit ton of heat and unless that fan is a high CFM flowing fan with a 3 row core you might have some overheating issues at lower speed tracks like PARC.

No worries, it's one of those bigger expensive items. A lot of people spend all the money on the engine trans and don't think about a clutch to handle the power so I doubt its gonna be a fast item to sell. I wish I had this before I had already bought my exedy twin because I paid 2 grand for it new wholesale. I only paid $1200 for this clutch and its actually a better clutchx, has the heat slits in the friction plates for better cooling and I plan on keeping it for a spare if someone doesn't want it.

@Twisted....lmk how you like that setup. I got a custom SPEC Twin that used (2) 3 Puck clutches to reduce drivetrain shock. The setup I have was run by Sam Collier (RoadRacer4Life on SF) for some time without any issues....and that was with him running 9's all day and going to the track every other week. SPEC has definitely stepped up their product with the Wilwood Master and new design Throw Out Bearing.
Keep up the good work....subscribed.

excellent work. did you know when you started this it would take you so far and so long?? i have a s13 coupe(cause they are better than hatches). with a rb25det.
i also have a 1jz in my sc400. i spy you are also rocking an sc. how much do you think you would charge fabbing up some front and rear upper sway bars?? i was going to get a trd one for the front and another brand for the rear, but seeing how you are a welding wizzard.....

Didn't really have a clue were it would go or how long I set a rough goal to finish it by but, for the most part I'm flying by the seat of my pants trying to build something out of a dream.
Lol funny you mention that I'm in a big toss up now to get rid of it for a truck or to keep it. I would really like a tow rig! For right now I can't really stray to far from 240 stuff as it's the only thing I have the time to work on plus it would really it would really help if I could get my own shop to do this stuff on the side.
or if someone is willing to hire me to work in a dream shop. *cough cough* Doc Race *cough* but idk if I got what it takes to hang with some of the best yet.

We'll I got caught up in some other things me and my girlfriend have been looking hard for a new place, we were really getting tired of the apartment and driving clear 40 miles round trip to work on the car just wasn't cutting it. So after scouring Craigslist and other sites with no luck, I was at the grocery store and bought a newspaper opened up the classified and bam three houses checked them all out and settled on one in particular with a nice shop on the property. It's going to take a little work, but we can't be more excited to finally have our own garage with enough space to enjoy what we do.
More to come.

Fabbed this aem ecu stay out of stainless put jrr on it for john reed racing ill make these for anyone that wants em custom logos even lmk
Where do you exactly mount these in the car? I had my gforce ecu on the floor board near the firewall but didnt like it there because of the heat being generated from my exhaust. So I zip-tied it neatly under the glove box.

I don't plan on going to any events until my car is done. It's really that depressing :rl:

I'm so excited to just walk a few feet to my own shop and enjoy my own cluster fuck rather than my friends and mine at the same time :D

Actually I can make these to mount in the stock location with ease but I built this one to be mounted to a stainless panel that I'm mounting the fuse boxes to so that the electrical will all be in an easy to access area were the glove box would be. Should turn out nice.

I feel like this is the millionth picture of the car sitting like this with no real progress. At least at this point the car has finally made it home, and with it only a few steps from the back door I can begin to make some progress on it, as we finish settling into the new house. Also Gwen's coupe lurking in the background, I Think I will really enjoy helping her out with this as it will be a steady but slow project and so far it's been nice to take my mind off things from the track car and build something as a cruiser, she has a lot of fun ideas I can't wait to help her make things happen.

Ran out of wire only 4 left to extend and I can finish everything up as far as wiring.
I thought up a way to cleanly mount my oil cooler. Mocked up my base I think I got a good idea in store for this that will be pretty cool. I have to decide if I want to weld the plate in or make it removable for easy access to the cooler.

What I came up with. Should function as an air dam and hold my oil cooler as well.
Things are getting pretty intense at work so I get 30 mins out of the day to work on my own stuff "my lunch". So I didn't get a chance to to weld on the tabs for holding the cooler but possibly got a lead on a tig welder I could pickup for home, we'll see.

Well I thought my chassis harness was done. Mind you the engine harness was not hooked up during testing. I put power to the harness and had every ground hooked up, my lights will turn on my brake lights work starter relay will click if I turn the key over my emergency flashers work.
The things that aren't working is there is no power to my gauge cluster or the clock, my wipers won't turn on, and my blinkers albeit when my emergency flashers are on everything works but when I flick the handle to signal left or right nothing comes on.
Is this because the circuit needs to be completed through the engine harness and the corresponding grounds?
I'm sourcing another chassis harness just in case, and will shorten OUTSIDE OF THE CAR ON A TABLE were I can fucking work instead of monkey shit in my car. I will still fit my dash and everything in until I Resolve my problem.

It's a mess but, at least something is getting done. The Wiring Specialties (http://http://www.wiringspecialties.com/) harness for the 1j got pulled and sent back today the plugs to the injectors were to short and the last plug popped off. Got a hold of Yury, and I only wish every company I've dealt with was this awesome. He has great customer service, even tho I had the plug repined with more wire and ready to solder on. He insisted that I return the harness for him to repair because I paid good money for it and it's not suppose to be something I should have to deal with on his products.

There is really nothing to it. If you intend to use the master cylinder that they send you with the kit you need my adapter bracket and the remote reservoir kit from wilwood or make your own it's not difficult and then changing the length of the lines.
no brainer really...
I just hope it doesn't make to much noise like other multi disc clutch setups

A really poor picture, but im going into round two with the chassis harness I will be completley honest that the first one turned out like ABSOLUTE CRAP, totally janky redneck ugly. It functioned but I couldnt stand the craftsmanship of it. So im giving this one a shot I will gut it of everything not needed to slim it down and will see if looping it then loom over will suffice to shorten it up to hide behind the dash. If not cut and solder I just wish my electrical prowess wasnt so.....:barf:
Also I did move to the big city and the car is in storage but I am doing my best to keep it alive I got a whole black interior for the car and some other things. Its gunnabe slow as I finish saving up my down payment for my house

Life happened. I missed being able to drive a 240 on the street and this chassis has seen a lot of abuse. After having put a lot of thought into were I was heading in life I changed things up a bit.
Proposed to my girlfriend of almost 5 years and bought her a car ;)
