machine shop and headwork

Im in the process of rebuilding my ca18 and i already tore it apart and cleaned most of the motor. I bought a 1.6mm HKS metal headgasket for it and i heard that the surface of the block and head need to have a mirror like finish. So I know that i need to get the block and the head resurfaced. I was wondering bout milling the head. Does anyone know approximately how much the compression change would be for a how ever much i want to mill it(per mm or whatever)? Does anyone have any experience with this motor?

Also, does anyone know of any good machine shops to go to in so cal? Im not sure where I should take it. How much does this usually cost? Thanks in advance for all the help.

mainly aluminum heads warp, so the only mill enough off to make it as close to possible to flat, unless u tell them to take off more.i had mine done ona ka last summer, but i m in wisconsin

usually around .003 (three thousandths) should be good and not enough to change the compression.
and actually it shouldn't have a mirror like finish, it should have a RA (arithmatic average, we just call it roughness average) between 30-60 or (lower the number , the smoother the surface, at school we go 50RA for alluminum)

are you going to have the block milled as well?
if so, you have to strip it to the bare block and have it sent it in to be milled.
are you rebuilding the bottom end as well?

Thanks for the help. I wanted to have the block milled too, but i dont really want to tear apart the block just yet. I have already done a pretty good job at cleaning it. Do you know how much this will cost? Anyone know anywhere good to go in socal for this work or would any machine shop do?
