Hello gentlemen,
Can anyone tell me if the two different styles of windage trays actually make any significant difference?

Solid tray - S13 blacktop, S15 SR, SR20VE (FWD shape).

Louvered tray - S13 redtop, S14 SR, FWD SR's.

I have a solid tray from a blacktop, but I am concerned that it may cause starvation at the bottom on the SR20VE, since the VVL pumps a lot more oil. At the same time, the SR20VE also uses a solid tray and so does the S15 SR, which were the latest SR's to be released, and thus I assume also the most 'advanced.'
That is why I am curious if there is any advantage to the solid tray vs. the louvered one, or vice versa.

Should I get the louvered tray, just to be safe?

Thanks ahead for any information.

I have the louvered tray on mine... Althought I have yet to start it.

When I read the title, I was expecting you had questions about these, Datsun-Nissan (http://www.crank-scrapers.com/Datsun-Nissan_SR.html).

It seems the louvered one will be a better choice for the peace of mind.

And I actually am planning to buy a scraper. The VE does not have a girdle so it should be a simple install, especially since I need to swap the upper oil pan anyway. Although I have been trying to find a dyno chart or something showing if it makes any measurable difference.
