so i bought a used gas tank off the forum here, the guy says the gas tank is off a 96, my car is a 95. so i tired to install the gas tank to my car but one of the fuel pump sensor on the tank wont connect to the sensor on the chassis. to my knowledge i thought at least 95-96 parts were compatible with eachother. my orignal gas tank had a crack so im in the process of replacing it. anyone know why i ran into this problem? ive searched for answers or at least some information but im getting really frustrated now any help or advice would be great

"FYI: The fuel level sender on the 95 (Pre-OBDII) has 3 pins out, and the 96+ (OBDII) has 4 pins out.
I haven't downloaded the '96 FSM to see what the testing procedure is, but just probing each of the 4 pins with an ohmmeter shows that the resistance changes when the float is at different positions. I suspect that it works, but I can't verify it yet. I'm not sure if you could use a 96+ fuel sender in a '95 tank or not. Physically, I believe that they're the same, so all of the brackets will fit. The only concern is if you can drop one of the wires/remove it and still use it.
If anyone needs a '96 fuel level sender, get in contact with me and we'll work out a price and I'll verify that it works."
i searched a little harder and found this, this is the problem i encountered, is there any way to use the 96 OBDII tank on my 95 s14?

had my tank changed since it was leaking too and my fuel gauge is off too :( real big annoyance with me. I haven't taken a look in the tank yet since I have been working on other things.

just re-pin the connector to match between the model years. I have a '96 tank on miy '95 (OBD-1) car and had to re-pin mine to work. Use the different service manuals between the model years and it's easy to figure out which goes to which.
