hey guys whats up, i've got a bit of an issue. so basically, my temperature gauge keeps hitting the H, and i just put in new coolant. While im driving, the needle goes back down to the middle but when its idle it slowly rises to the H. when i park and pop the hood the liquid in the reservoir is hot and higher than the MAX line. is it a water pump problem? thermostat? should i flush it all out? could air inside it have anything to do with this?

anyway, i appreciate anything, if maybe you've encountered this before.

haver you checked the bottom line to see if it's hot? change your thermostat and water pump. If it keeps going up check your head/head gasket. Mine was leaking exhaust into the coolant from a cracked head.

not sure what the bottom line is you're talking about, i dont know a whole lot about cars. anyway, today i was waiting in a drive thru and the heat got so high steam came out from under my hood by the reservoir. im gonna try changing the thermostat and water pump. ps. its like it eats coolant, but theres no leak.

Are you using strait water or 50/50 coolant? Have you properly burped the coolant system ensuring there is no air in the thermostat?

This could definitely be an issue.

As for checking the lines make sure your getting coolant flow through the radiator. If the hose on the bottom of your radiator is cold you have flow issues.

If your keep letting your car overheat that heads going to become a good boat anchor. Between this site and nico club theres a ton of info just search what issues your having and read.

alright cool, thanks for the info. im using prestone 50/50. im not sure about how to 'burp' it, but ill read up on that. im just going to stop driving until this is resolved.

i was reading around and this thread comes pretty close to my problem:

i also have a lot of visible smoke from my exhaust.

That would be a good idea. If your cooling system is not bled properly it can result in a shortage in the flow of coolant which can cause serious harm to your engine. If I am not mistaken, to burp the system, open the radiator cap, while the car is cool of course, and start up your engine and monitor the radiator until there are no more bubbles coming up. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong.

the things ive read made it sound alot more difficult than that, though i could be wrong. i was reading things like, jack up the front or park on a hill, remove the bleed bolt, and flush it with water(or coolant?) until there are none left. anything is helpful at this point really.

Its safe to say your headgasket is toast. My KA did the same thing. I'm changing the headgasket right now

I'm having the same issue with my car. I'm going with bleeding the system and hopefully that works. I've seen different ways to do it some fast some pretty lengthy. Let me know how it all goes.

I had to replace the headgasket. Now I have a few new problems lol. But, the smoke stopped, and it's a lot better with heat. Doesn't overheat as much, but I'm leaking coolant so I just put some in from time to time.

Not sure exactly. I think it's the water pump. I'm gonna replace it soon
