Hello,
I noticed that theres a little gap in my distributor. Is that how its supposed to be or does it need to be loosened and put in place? I just dont wanna start messing with it causing my car not to run lol.
Thanks

damm.. well i figured out the gap is because im missing the gasket. As for the timing. Do i need to take apart the motor to set the timing or is it easy? And my timing being off would that make it so that i have to give it gas to start in the morning but starts right up rest of the day. Also, it smokes a bit.

Possibly. If your ignition timing is off, its possible your base timing is off too. If the ignition timing needs to be set like that in order for the car to run, theres a good chance your base timing is off. BTW, theres no gasket for the distributor, it uses an o ring seal. The distributor cap has some kind of gasket I believe. There should be no gap between the distributor and cylinder head.

So is it hurting my engine at all the way it is now? The car runs great btw. If i mess with the distributor timing is there a chance i could mess it up? Is there anywhere i can get some instructions?

You asked how do you time it. But you also say you have a timing gun.
Why do you own a timing gun if you don't know how to use it?
And potentially you can hurt something yes. If you have been driving like that then guess not

Usually you have to set dizzy timing that way when your exhaust cam is off by one tooth...put it at tdc pull the cover and see how your cam timing looks
