So driving tonight to go to a friends house, and I might add that I was driving like an old man since I didn't feel like spending money on fuel. The car decided it wasn't in the mood to go hang out.

While decelerating to come to a stop light I heard a chatter noise. Sounded much like when you put a baseball card on bicycle spokes, except much louder. After the red light I slowly accelerated and made a left. The sound came back again for a second and then, POP. TINK. followed by the sound of something bouncing down the road.

Felt a pretty bad shimmy in the wheel and a vibration on the shifter and momentarily in the steering wheel. I pulled over and didn't see anything visually damaged. Limped the car home, max speed was 3rd gear 2500rpm (speedo not hooked up lol). Anything above this and the shifter would vibrate badly as well as the chassis, the steering was fine though. Odd.

Motor revvs fine and all gears shift smoothly.

I had a stripped bolt on my driveshaft, where the rubber dampener is and we just zipped the nut on with an impact and said f u, perhaps the nut decided to retaliate and the bolt left causing vibration? That was my guess.

Also I might add, comming up the mountain where I live the car was "overheating". The motor felt fine to the touch, both hoses to the rad was hot but the rad itself was ice cold. Pulled over and shut the car off, 1 minute later the temp was normal, so I think my thermostat just needs to be replaced. In the spring I'll probably do a water pump and the regular maintenance stuff before I dive head first into a drift setup.

Any ideas otherwise or any typical weak points? I'm sure when I jack up the car it'll become evident however any guesses on what to expect before I jack her up tuesday morning

Something drivetrain related. I guessing it has to do with the driveshaft and/or halfshafts. Once those things get out of balance they vibrate to all hell and back.

Of the 6 or 8 bolts that bolt the two pieces of the driveshaft together at the rubber dampener, one has decided to peace out. lol. Seems to be the issue I think. My carrier bearing isn't in wonderful shape either though

Without me having to take one of the bolts out and having it matched up, does anyone know off hand the size / specs of that bolt/nut

Go get all new bolts. If one has flown the coupe the others may be right behind it, or go get a one piece and don't ever have to worry about that rubber damper again.

The dampener seems like the dumbest thing ever, It's gotta eat horsepower. I'll probably just throw the one bolt in and then buy a one piece come spring since they're not all that expensive
