Hello. Some of you guys might know me as the red Evo driver from samuraifiles.com. Since this question pertains to a Silvia, I'd love to get your opinions on it.

I need to decide what to do with the samuraifiles.com project car. Right now I have a 1991 240sx coupe version, and intend to try and make the front end look tight. As of the moment, I have the S13 conversion with just primer -obviously the hood has been removed-:
http://www.samuraifiles.com/modules/gallery/albums/album101/IMG_0020_copy.sized.jpg

Now, I currently have three options. First, I could just go ahead and buy a kit for the S13 front. Here's one example of a Bomex kit. -Not necessarily the one I'd choose, but for the sake of simplicity, I'll just show the Bomex line-
http://www.bomex.co.jp/item_img/20511110004.jpg

The second option is to convert the front end to an S14 Kouki version. With a kit, it would look something like this:
http://www.bomex.co.jp/item_img/20521110002.jpg

The third option is here because I have a coupe, and the S15 front would look very silly. However, my friend wants to sell me his 240sx hatchback for a good price, and is willing to help switch out all of the parts, including the motor, tranny, suspension, literally everything, even the interior between my coupe and the hatch. Also, then I would have to sell the coupe which would be restored to stock. A benefit though is that the hatch is smogged for two years if I get it now, and there's no way my coupe, which needs smog, has any chance of passing in an honest shop. If I were to choose this one, I could have a car which looks something like this:
http://www.bomex.co.jp/item_img/20531110001.jpg

My question for all of you is which option should I choose? Keep in mind this is intended to be a complete semi-streetable 400+hp racecar which officially represents samuraifiles.com. It is intended to be run in the NASA SRX class. Also, it should be noted that right now I need to replace the headlights 'cuz they suck, the hood, 'cuz it's too heavy, the bumper, 'cuz it's not aerodynamic, and the fenders, 'cuz MooBoy crashed them. :tweak: I'm leaning towards the second one as of the moment. Although the S15 would definitely look tighter, it would require lots of work to get done. However, right now the engine is out of my car which should make the job easier, and I wouldn't have to worry about the government regulations for awhile. What do you all think?

Check out www.samuraifiles.com for updated info!

dont go with bomex, i tihnk the s15 will look just silly on a coupe, kouki s14 will look nice, but go with some nice clean aero like vertex. and get some wheels with nce sizes and offset. s13 looks just fine, well cause it belongs there...some many choices for s13 front end...

Honestly, I think they're all ugly. Keep the stock Silvia front and find a carbon hood, look much cleaner. Just my opinion so don't get mad.

- Get the hatchback.
- Cut the front bumper for more airflow to the intercooler.
- Spend the money saved on actual racing-related parts.
- Done.

yeah i wouldnt do any of the options you have listed... if all, i'd replace the hood to CF one but of course would have it repainted to match the car.... that what i'm going to do on mine later as the stock one is extremely heavy. Fenders can be fixed, headlights are ok, cleans them up but some brighter bulbs in them, or get some used HID's since you already have projectors with little bit of retro-fit your should get much much better lighting output then stock lighting.. then dump all the other cas into motor/suspension.. as for the smog just do it illegally save yourself days of working swaping parts over.

if it will be a racecar.. dont bother with costmetics.. IMO
if it will be a showcar.. then you can worry about those bodykit stuff.. IMO

Yeh, the title is 'race car conversion'... and all I see are body options. But IMO just stick with S13 Silvia front end.

stick with the s13 front end on coupe, get an aero bumper... SO HOT.
you want to see the sickest looking s13- jspec.com has the nicest looking 240sx/silvia in the states imo. Second place goes to the seafoam green with gold wheels one floating around here. both are coupe both have period correct front end/ aero.

the s14 is harder to do than the s15, fenders cost more and are harder to get. i go withthe s13 silvia front, cheapest and easyest.

Performance-wise the car is covered pretty much. We have a new Sr20det going in there, along with bigger turbo, intercooler, and a bunch of other shiz. We would just like opinions on the front cause we might end up replacing a lot of that stuff anyways, like the shitty lights, broken turn signal, one of the fenders are slighty damaged, etc.

get the aero bumper like everyone says, that bumper is so freaking sexy......i was suppose to get the silvia conversion with the aero bumper this weekend for 1200, now thats a deal, but the queer who's suppose to sell it to me screwed me over by not even answering my calls when i reached to his place.....

Get a 180SX Kouki front bumper and sides. I am doing that on my coupe. It definitely looks way different than the usual S13 front end and not as unusual like a S14 and S15 front on a S13.

It is all OEM and looks real clean and no need to worry about cracking it since it is urethane. Plus most people aren't willing to pay the $900+ for just the front bumper so less people will have it.

Id consider teh Broad front bumper from GTP Importfan.com, this one does fit pretty good and its cheap. http://www.importfan.com/product.asp?0=0&1=0&3=3767 THat car doesnt do it justice.

But Id really consider no bodykit at all, just the lip from a 89-90 240sx or the JDM silvia lip. Or teh OEM K's Aero front bumper. And a CF hood, but no grill or anything between the headlights.

And R33 GTR wheels, and Two Tone!

What kit is that?

coachola
03-23-2004, 06:30 PM
That kit looks tight. Thanks for the advice fellas. Looks like the hatch is off the market, sold it to a friend of mine after trading the s13 front for it. A good deal I think. Probably gonna go Kouki front, any kit suggestions?
