Hello,

I just picked up my first 240 after months of searching for the right one. Scored an 89 240 with a 98 ka24de motor in "perfect condition"... well ya that lasted about a day til i started digging through the car.

First off, it was smoking sooo much that you couldnt see the car behind you(white smoke) when entering second gear. I found that it was missing a nipple cover on the intake and the nipple by the MAF sensor was cracked and brittle. So i replaced those and turned the car on and saw black smoke then it stopped smoking... Took it for a test drive and it seems to be doing a lot better, it only smoked once. Another thing is the motor is high mileage and the previous owner put fresh 5w30 in it, but looks like he put so much oil it reads like 2 almost 3 inches above the full line on the dip stick! And its been leaking oil like crazy since ive had it for about 2 days now. So should I do a fresh oil change with 10w40? (im in florida) Im hoping this might stop the oil leak or maybe a oil pan gasket will fix that. Another thing is that i noticed that on top of the engine theres a nozzle that sticks out the motor and it has a tube attatched to the intake and it was a bit loose. So i just pressed it in tight so maybe that was causing it to run lean also? since it has something to do with the intake.

Second, the clutch is pathetic.... It has like 2 inches of free play and you only have to press it in barely to disengage and then you can literally shift through the gears with no grinds without pushing the clutch pedal. Do I need to bleed the clutch or is it time for a new clutch? He told me that it has a new clutch but i highly doubt that.

Thanks,
Mike

another thing i forgot to mention is when i let go of the clutch and starting to drive, the clutch feels like its still engaging...

If the oil level is THAT high then that's likely the cause of the smoke. Change the oil with thicker stuff and set the level correctly. As for the clutch, bleed it and adjust it. See how it is after that...

You should also post in the tech section, you'll get more help there.

thank you so much for replying my man.

This whole time i kept telling my father that it was smoking because the oil level and weight but he kept telling me thats not it.... :smash: I am going to take it for an oil change tomorrow. I wish I could do it but I dont have a jack and the car is slammed. Ill be posting pics soon, I just washed it for the first time! Looks great for an 89.

As for the clutch, it looks like the cotter pin that was holding on the push pin by the pedal under the dash was missing and the pin finally fell out. So I took the pin, put it back in, adjusted the clutch and it seems to be doing a lot better now but havent gone for a test ride yet. Ill report back asap. On to the pics.

thanks again!
