Brad, if you direct bolt up the J30 VLSD you will need an ABS driveshaft.

you do not need the abs driveshaft there is less then half an inch difference either drive shaft will work, and yes I can prove this.

Correction, if you want to half ass it, continue to use the improper driveshaft with a J30 VLSD. I'm sure Nissan made different driveshafts for no reason at all. Right?

S14:
Section 1: Coming From Trans (ABS makes no Diff. in Length here)
M/T = 421.0mm (16.57")
A/T = 441.0mm (17.37")

Section 2: Center Bearing/Mount to Diff
Non-ABS = 650.0mm (25.59")
ABS = 636.0mm (25.04")

I don't thinks he is saying it won't "fit" of course it does. It will be a tight fit how do I know? Because I have done it, the thing is that you need the proper drive shaft since there has to be slack. Using the Non-ABS driveshaft can destroy the Transmissions rear mail seal and it will cause a leak.

So using a Non-ABS DS instead of ABS DS = Half-assing it
