Anyone get people telling you your car is nice?

I was at Costco a couple days ago and was leaving with the cart full of groceries, and as I got close to my car I noticed an older guy walking around my car. He looked about 40. He was walking front to back, kind of looking in, and when he saw me kinding riding the cart towards my car, he asked me "Is this your car?" I just said "yeah". He told me, "It's really nice, but I couldn't figure out what is was, because they're are no badges or emblems" So I told him it was a Nissan. He didn't even ask what model it was, he just smiled and said "It's very nice" again, looked at it some more, and got in his Maxima and waved as he left. I thought it was cool to have an older guy appreciate my car... and all it has is some old +10 offset Z wheels, kouki tailights, zenki lip on zenki bumper. That's it.

Depends.....I've had people in an escort(and on other time:civic) roll down their windows and everybody gave a thumbs up and were like "HEY NICE CAR ...IS IT FAST?????? WHAT YEAR IS IT?..." etc,..I get complements whenever I go through drive-throughs ....I get the look like almost all the time though,and LOTS I mean LOTS of ricer chicks trying to race,thats just annoying....my car is pretty close to stock,but is digustingly clean(not right now,but usually lol.) So bascially its not really anything special.

and therein lies the problem my friend. seems the only people who really pay attention to my car are the ignorant riceboys that wouldn't know a real car if it bit them in the ass. when i say my car has an SR20DET i instantly get "how much was it?" and "i'm getting mine next month". i've actually started telling people it's not turbo and the FMIC is just for looks;) because i can't stand talking to people that assume i have 400hp just because i have an SR in my car. unfortunately the 240sx is the new "holy grail" of imports because people think drifting is cool (they all also think that pulling your ebrake and spinning a 180 is drifting) and you can put a turbo motor in it (because god knows that a turbo motor is wayyyyyyyyyyy cooler because you can have a blowoff valve to impress the ladies :goyou: ). i've had at least 3 encounters like my last post everynight i'm out and nothing irritates me more than stupid people that open their mouth before they know anything about what they're trying to talk about. but luckily they'll all learn soon enough, that you can't actually do a $2500 SR swap, and that the SR doesn't make 300hp on stock fuel/turbo parts, and not everyone has the driving skills needed to drift :Ownedd:. i've already seen a rise of rwd car related single car accidents in my area from stupid shits that think a wide intersection is a great place to try to show off their "skills" and end up curb surfing and destroying their cars. :rawk:

The people who knows about 240sx will compliment a 240sx that is modified. I compliment other people all the time. At the drag strip I get alot of people complimenting, but then they are enthusiasts and they like to see modified cars.

I consider the regular average joe complimenting the car more of a honest none biased compliement. Especially if they don't ask "is that a silvia?" or "do you have an SR?". My reasoning being that regular people usually compliments because they actually like the way the car looks and not based upon some propaganda from mags. I had a guy in a 5 series give me a stop light "that's a nice car!" out the window thing without even having any idea what kind of car it is.

Not being complimented might not be a bad thing though. Chances of your car being stolen will be reduced.

I had a police officer compliment on my car once. The whole time I was working on my front end suspension...the guy was on the side of the road looking at me or potential speeders.:p Once I was done and everything put back together he drove up to me and said "nice car" along with some other positive comments. For a split second I thought he was going to write me a ticket for suspension, tint and exhaust...but the police in my area are cool with me. :)

Story: Went to meet a couple friends at IHOP. Some asians (10-15) were standing outside in the parking lot by their cars, all Hondas. I decided to park by them. Me and the guy that was with me got out, started to walk past them while my friend said "what's up" to one of them. One of them mumbled "nice car." Besides my friend saying, "what's up", we said nothing else. Went in, ate, asians left 10 minutes later, we left 30 minutes after arriving. Came out and I could tell one of them poured something on the roof of my car, didn't bother me. Got in, left parking lot, and as soon as I got on the highway, my car pulled hard to the right. WTF BASTARDS. :rant:

Only reason I could think of is... a) they didnt' like the people we were meeting, or b) they were pissed because I was driving a pretty clean '97 240sx (clean for being totally stock with s13 7 star rims) and they just wanted to f**king hate on my car.

I haven't gotten too many complements so when I do i tend to remember them vividly. I was getting something out of the car one time at work and a regular customer was just walking to the store entrance. My car was facing him so he couldn't see the emblems 'cept for the nissan. He calls out "Hey Dan, Is that a 240SX?" I reply "Yes". He replies "It looks really nice, I wanted to buy one of those when they first came out. It is hard to find anything rear wheel drive anymore." This kinda suprised me, the guy is roughly 60ish, not someone who I would have figured as a car enthusiast, let alone knew about this car.

Another time I was driving a friend home and a guy in an Altima (new one, but only a 2.5l) was rubber necking while driving past. The windows were up so there was no way for him to hear me, so purely jokingly I said "Hey you lookin at my girl (meaning the one sitting in the passenger seat)?" She was like "Dan, he continued staring well after he passed me. He was looking at your car". Kewl!

I've gotten two compliments from people I don't really know, and my car looks like poop! Its a 1989 pig nose coupe with minor mods. Anyways, a group of stupid grade 9s came up to me as I was putting my bag in the trunk. They're like: "Yo guy! Nice Nissan! Is that thing a Skyline?" I just smiled, got in my car and drove away. Secondly, a guidence councellor who owns a Maxima came up to my and started a conversation with me. Apparently he really likes 240s and was complimenting my car. He said he wanted to buy a 98 but his wife made him get the Maxima.

I thought it would be funny to set my turbo timer (i bought it to cool my oil after my constant 75 mile trips to school and back and because i plan on adding a 't' to my 'ka24de' someday when i'm not a poor college student). But, there are occasional ones that actually are meaningful. My store has a commericial branch, as well as being to located near a few racing shops. Because of that, we get a lot of the older, experienced, professional road racer sort. I've had some of them recognize my car for what it is, and complement it, despite the crappy appearance. As someone who wants to get into road racing, it's nice to know that sometimes, the guys who know their stuff, think my car is more than just a POS.

we had an autox last year on a road course, called Carolina Motorsports Park. They basically throw some cones on the road course and call it an autox, its soo sweet!! :) anyways, the national A-Modified champion was there, he competes with us every once and awhile. btw, this is the FASTEST autox'er in the entire country, hes been national champion a few years in a row now (and later went on to become national champion again after this autox.) Anyways, i was in the pit stop next to him, and after a few runs, he came up to me and said: "man, ive noticed your car before, and i love it! it looks like a lot of fun, and your a good driver as well!" that was good enough for me! :) me and my co driver ended up stomping DSP that day, but anyways, that was the best compliment ive ever recieved.

I have had the gawking interfools...you the one's who stare into your bumper likes its some car god. Eh.

i bought my house in may of last year. A few of my neighbors are car enthusiasts, but none of them ever said hi or anything. My 240 was in the shop right before i moved in, and was in there for 9 months. I just brought it home last month, but still had some minor issues preventing me from driving it, so it sat in my garage. Yesterday, we worked on it during the day. As soon as we rolled it out of the garage to jump start it, two of my neighbors came over and started asking me questions. They were older teenage or early 20 in age. They asked all the ricer questions "what stage turbo is that?" "Where is the nawz bottle" etc :fruit: I'm a friendly guy so I answered them as best as I could while trying to correct them. After it fired up, we were adjusting the clutch, fixing minor idle issues, so we let it run for a good 30 mins to help charge the battery. During this time, about 5 of the neighborhood kids (maybe 10-12 years old) came over and started checking it out. The funny part is, they knew more about what they were looking at than the older guys :rofl: They knew what motor they were looking at, and understood exactly what I meant when I said it would run in the 11's. We finished up and decided to let it run longer to charge the battery, and yet more neighbors came by. I met the hot girl across the street, who happens to know some of my car buddies. All in total, I met 10 neighbors in a span of an hour, which is 9 more than I had met in the previous 9 months. Fairly amusing.

All the time. I don't do my mods for the attention, but it is nice to know the amount of looks I get for the rather inexpensive amount I've put into this car (including the cost of the car itself). Some people buy 30k+ cars to get these looks.

It's also cool to see a wide variety of people commenting on the car. From teenagers to older adults. I had my car at the mechanic's last week and some older guy was asking me all this stuff about my car and how nice it was and was telling me about how he use to own an old Z and how my car reminded me of his. I thought that was really cool.

I don't get many if any compliments on my car since i have a dent in each rear quarterpanel haha... but you know. Anyways before i had put the dent in the passenger side quarterpanel i was riding through town and sitting at one of our "longer" red lights when a '04 cobra convertible pulled up on my passenger side with an older guy behind the wheel, probably around 50+, and said "hey, thats a nice car!" and i didn't know what to say, i was just like "thanks, yours is really nice too!" i know his car cost atleast 40k and mine cost like 2k lol. I think the best one was some guy and his G/F in a raised off roaded out truck yelling at me at a stop light, Hey nice car. I shot the shit with the driver while he waited for his car to fill-up: SR20, JIC FLT, Kaaz, blah blah blah. I even mentioned the dreaded 'drifting' word, LOL. I told him to keep it under 150mph and he drove off... It was FUN!

Well I figured he was just going to pass me, but he slowed down right next to me and gave me a thumbsup. With car people, it's generally because it's the first Silver Moss 240 they've ever seen, I get the "Is that a factory color?" question all the time.

With random people, they just don't know what the hell it is. When your everyday person thinks "240sx", they're thinking of an S13 hatch. They look at a Kouki S14 and don't know what to make of it. Some woman at the post office sounded genuinely sad a week ago when she asked what it was and I told her that they haven't been sold since '98. I think she wants one, lol.

I get alot of random guys giving me the thumbs up, Kids, women, guys, dads, grandpas. That or they're really confused when they see me on the other side of the car. I purposely look for these confused people on the roads, it entertains me to see some of their reactions. Feels good to get compliments all the time but i get the same questions all day long. Most the same but some are just really odd.

Most of the people are actually 240 owners, and some stick around and talk about things in a bit more detail. I talked to a cool guy outside a 7-11 in Encinitas(towards San Diego) who has a S13 with SR, silvia front and R33 wheels. Wasn't some dumb wannabe drifter like most people who approach me about my car, he was actually knowledgeable and we had a pretty good convo for like 15 minutes.

But yah, many of new 240sx owners will still feel the unabaded classic & unique impression to s14's slick look -->kouki headlights, which resembles Skyline R34 GT-R (Silvia and Skyline are literally being called "brothers" under Nissan Sportcar line during they were still in production years) in general impression to those who are unaware of the existence of Silvia in Japan, called 240sx in US.

So I'm in a hurry for no reason and started passing cars (Malibu only has one lane per direction). Same here. If people dont know about cars, they probably think I ride around in a POS (family included, except my girlfriend and bestfriend). But I get compliments from other nissan owners a lot.
