What else could cause the EGR diaphragm to not open?

So, last night I fixed a few vacuum problems, my car was throwing check engine light code 32, EGR malfunction. I switched a few hoses around (I mismatched a few when I changed my intake manifold). Also it ran code 34 for knock sensor. Okay, I need a knock sensor too..... (Never replaced it yet)

After I put it all back together, I opened my throttle body with the car running, and as the engine revved up, the diaphragm opened up! (Its supposed to, right?) When I let the car spin down to idle, the diaphragm also went back to its normal place.

I reset my computer, and the check engine light stayed off all night, and during my drive to work this morning.

On the way home, the damn light turned on again. I run the code this time, and it's 32, and code 54. 54 points to an automatic transmission control unit error. (The manual trans is going in next week. i don't care!)

So I do the same test I did last night... I open the throttle body with the engine running, to see if the diaphragm opened up.. IT DID NOT open up this time.

What would cause this change? I believe it would be the vacuum solenoid, correct? Should I connect a volt meter to the solenoid and see if there is power going to it?

I'm starting to think my ECU is going bad... last night I needed a knock sensor, this morning I need a transmission control unit..
