Hey guys. Currently rebuilding an engine right now and plan on going turbo in the near future. Looking for like 225-250whp. My neighbor has an oil temp made by autometer, reads 140-300 fahrenheit, and he said he would let me have it if I give home a ride somewhere sometime(probably around 45-60 miles round trip).

Question is, will I need the gauge, or would it at least be good enough to have to make it worth it?

not necessarily, if you run an oil cooler. oil pressure, yes.

Always good to have. Just because you have an oil cooler doesn't mean something won't go wrong and when something does go wrong you sure as shit wanna know about it asap.

I'd have oil pressure and water temp before oil temp.

your oil pressure gauge will tell you something is wrong before an oil temp

If you plan on drifting, or just stomping on the car for an extended amount of time, its good to have an oil temp. About 120* C/250* F, oil starts cooking itself and pretty much stops lubricating/deteriorates.

I started this thread on my phone. it would be a serious pain in the ass to find that thread, and then post in it. plus this got faster and more replies than I've ever had in the small questions thread lol.

Thanks all for the reply., I knew I'll need an afr, boost, and oil pressure gauge, as well as water temp, but I wasn't sure if an oil temp would be necessary since the gauge cluster has one. Now I just gotta figure out where to put it... It's decently sized..

It depends on how you want to setup your gauges. There's a dude I think in the interior thread that has a cool set-up. You should check it out!

the stock gauge cluster doesn't have an oil temp gauge... thats a coolant temp gauge, and it is inferior to a proper aftermarket gauge.

^this. I'd never trust a twenty year old factory temp gauge. Oil temp is also nice to let you know when you're safe to start beating on your motor. Oil heats up slower than coolant.

Two most important gauges would be water temp and oil pressure.

Oil temp is important, but I would suggest investing in an increased capacity oil pan more so.
