Do vin # tell you if your car is auto?

I have a warrantee on my 98 240sx and I was wondering if Nissan would know that it used to be an auto if I do the swap?  I'm thinking about bringing it up to Kansas city to get a 5 speed put in if I can get it done for $800 or less.

The warranty will be void if anything goes wrong with your tranny or if anything else that is related to the transmission goes wrong because you've replaced it. The VIN will confirm that it was an auto, yes.
