So i had a bit of a problem today as i was heading out to a friends house. I was on my way and about 5 minutes into the trip i smelled some type of weird smell. Like metal friction smell. So me being the unlucky one and having to replace my calipers on my other s13 (i have two) i automatically assumed it was that. So i hopped out and what do you know both rotors are smoking as much as i do. lol. My only question is i have no doubt that one of the calipers if not both are probably not in the best of shape since they are old. but how could they both seize up at once? i hardly ever use the ebrake as well. it's my daily so its an auto (no need for the ebrake). any help is appreciated.

Your description was confusing as fuck.
Are you saying your rear brakes were smoking after you drove the car for 5 min?
Did you previously change the calipers before this incident?

Check pedal freeplay and height.
Check hoses for damage, dough you can't tell if inside is collapsed unless you unbolt lines and check fluid flow. If their old, buy new ones.
If you put on used calipers, chances are they sat around collected lots of moisture and rusted internally, causing them to seize.
Your really not being specific about what kind of brake system you have and if its fronts or rears.
If you need more help, google car brakes diagnostic ( or something similar) and learn how hydraulic brake system works.

The part where I said I replaced calipers was on my other s13. Not the one I am having problems with. I'm thinking when I pulled the ebrake it seized up or something. Idk. I honestly doubt that both calipers would seize up at the same time. Very unlikely.

And yes I drove the car today before it happened. I never myself replaced calipers on this car. But as said I doubt that both calipers would go bad at once.
