I'm just getting rear speakers now, because i blew them, and i was wondering if you all think i should get componets back there as well. I want good bass wihtout subs, because i won't have them for a while, and i've heard that cmpenents are much better for because the midbasses are alone... tell me what ya think, i'm looking at the polk.. something or other

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1306004184

and some other alpine and infinity ones... let me know that you all think, thanks.

For the rear speakers get some Mid Bass Drivers...they put decent feedback without subs...make sure you get a small little amp to power it. I reccomend getting CDT Audio

If you need some pics i'll show em to you. Where are you from? If you're close by i'll cruise by so you can listen to em.

If you have, or intend to get an amp, I would put midbass drivers in. CDT, IDQ6's or Kicker Freeair would be a good choice. Otherwise don't worry about back speakers. If they are full range they should never be as loud as the front, because it screws up your sound stage.

It depends on wether you care about the "rear soundstage" if one exists; in other words if you don't care if the people in the back get proper visualization then don't go rear components, 'cuz it will pull your soundstage to the center of the car and that sucks.
And winner of the longest run-on sentence: me!

what r component speakers? how do they compare to like 180w 3-way 6.5's?

Component speakers have separate midrange/midbass and tweeters. The design (not having a big hole in the middle of the woofer) typically allows for tighter bass than a coaxial will give you. Drawback is they're a bit tougher to install, you need to cut out a new spot for the tweeters. For rear speakers, I say don't bother. I'm running some good components up front, decent 4" plate (sortacomponent) speakers in back, and a sub. I just need a decent 50w four way amp and I'm set. The speakers themselves are Infinites, which I like enough

Ah, and I know for a fact my s13 didn't have 20w RMS out of the deck (try 5w), but I can't speak for the s14s. A decent aftermarket deck will be between 18w and 25w RMS typically.

Give us your price range and we'll set u up.
Warantees are great, people buy speakers and damage them then sell them. Happens all the time; if your serious about it then get them at a reliable shop like this one:

www.thezeb.com

BTW: Don't get sucked into the high end components unless you plan on building custom sealed kick panels or door pods; it won't be worth it. DEI is nice but power hungry, CDT the same. You will want to invest in CLEAN power (amp) not big numbers. Rockford Fosgate makes great amps (all i use).

thanks man.. that helps, i'm checkin out the web page now, i'm looking to spend under 100 on the rear speakers, then 150ish on an amp to power them, my front components will stay for a lil while, they aren't blown yet

i can go a lil steaper on the speakers if i don't need to amp them right away as well... but i'm not looking for CRAAaazzy sweet speakers.. just something that gives nice midbass in the rear i lisetn to a lot of hiphop and rap, and i like clean bass... i'm doing a sub a lil later... so i want something that will perform decently with the low notes untill i can bump a sub

how much do you think they cost? and how many watts do i have to run to them?

gregshin
12-19-2001, 03:11 PM
oh yeah i forgot to add that they were $80.00 brand new and i'm running 75 watts for each of them. Trust me you will not be disappointed with them. IF you can spend a bit more...get their next line up.

Since i'm running a sub i can barely hear my mid bass at all...it's just their for some mid fill. what area are you from? if you're close i can swing by and let ya hear them.

i'm in cinci ohio,, where r u?

AJ

also, how easy is the wiring in the back to get a 2 channel amp set up? i'm thinking about getting a decent PPI 2 way, bridging one channel for the rears, and using the other when i get a sub... do you think left and right control matter in the back that much?.. let me know what you think. Most importantly though, how easy is the wiring job, and what does it intail. thanks! u've been awesome

AJ
12-19-2001, 03:31 PM
also, do you have the high definition ones, or the classic series... one retails for 199,, the other retails for 99.. caus if you got the 199 one for what u paid... i'd be all over that.

gregshin
12-19-2001, 05:21 PM
actually i never touched the wiring myself...i let me friends do it...i have the classic series in the rear and they are awesome...but for the fronts i have the hi definiton series with silk tweeters...which cost me $380 for the fronts and $75.00 for the rear classic mid bass driver.....they are being powered by a planet audio 300watt 4 channel TUBE amp. Fooken sounds SWEET!
#### i'm in cali bro...how come you never have your AIM on? mine is on all day at work but rarely at night.

The classic series is their low end model...but when i heard it play with just my head unit powering it i was IMPRESSED and so was the installer. Right when you get you can see the quality of the drivers...imagine how good the top end are? then again this is all in my opinon but from what i hear CDT audio is better then Infinity and MB quartz....but lower then Focal and ADS...but the thing is you wont even be able to hear the differnce between a $400 speaker and $800 unless you're a sound off judge and anal...whoo ok i think i;m done
